Labour Party Conference

I've been asked to attend this year through some of the work I've been doing.

First off I've never been a member of any political party and it's the first time at an annual conference - however we've all been disrupted when they came to Blackpool.

Walking to the venue, the first thing I saw was 'women claiming space for women to be heard' with a load of trans folk shouting them down.

I took a leaflet, and someone then said, you don't want to do that, it's anti-trans hate. ", Women don't have penises, men don't have vagina's" were the outrageous claims being made in the market.

Approaching the security gate I numbers into a group holding a rally with the #LabourisDead or something similar.

Into the area, got a stern talking to by a security guard as I didn't have my badge on; week I'm not in the secure zone said I. Didn't matter, well I'm sorry, it's my first time here.

Look around the stalls. What is interesting is the number of big businesses here. According to my colleagues, who were at The Tories last week, there's far more here. It suggests that the big businesses are lining up to lobby for their interests with the likely next Government.

And they try to convince us things are different😊

I attended a couple of functions last night, the Progressive Britain was the group who stuck together when Corbyn was leader. There was a significant number of Jewish attendees, and the speakers, were reasonable but remarked and the "hard left" and the "rabid antisemitism" which was happening during that time. It wasn't quite triumphalism but not so far off.

And what struck me was that somewhere else in Liverpool there would be a another group of 500 people calling this lot Tory lite and how JC was the best thing to ever happen and was done by traitors and the press - not the voters.

I'm on a panel today, let's see which faction I upset!!

The organiser of the 'Let Women Speak' event has a habit of calling for the murder of trans people and their eradication and mass sterilisation, as well as hanging out with neo-nazis. She's a single-issue campaigner which has meant getting into bed with white supremacists and fascists who just happen to agree with her on this. She doesn't usually put her more inciteful, hateful rhetoric on the nice, less offensive leaflets she put out to the public of course, she wants you to think she's just a woman saying common sense, but considering on her live streams she has often called for violence against trans people you can probably see why she draws a bigger opposition crowd from people who are more aware of her work.

Yes, I've read that the Conservative Party has increased its number of 'spies' attending this year's Labour Conference. 😉

TSS maybe you can find out why the party promotes a 'Labour for Israel' policy while David Lammy is cosying up to Hamas, appearing at a fringe event alongside a Palestinian diplomat who said the attack on Israel was "coming their way". Labour will never shake off its anti-semitic reputation by cosying up to Hamas terrorists.

How is David Lammy cosying up to Hamas?

Some may find it convenient not to do so but it is important to separate anti-semitism and the Israeli State. For one thing, the Palestinians are also a Semitic race. To take a different example, I oppose Putin , his totalitarian hold over the Russian people and his war against Ukraine. That does not make me anti-Christian or anti-Russian. And before you ask, no, I do not support the Hamas terrorists but if Lammy was referring to the behaviour of the Israeli State and the settlers towards ordinary Palestinians then he has a point in saying that the attack was "coming their way."

Seems pretty tenuous when Lammy has himself called Hamas a terrorist organisation and strongly condemned them. I think it's better to judge people for what they actually think and say don't you? David Lammy is responsible for what David Lammy says not some other random bloke. Calling this 'cosying up' to Hamas is incredibly intellectually dishonest.
The opposite of 'tenuous' is 'thick'. I can't think of a more fitting description of a person choosing to share a platform with a terrorist sympathiser whilst seeking to form the next government. In fact, it's so outrageous that I fully expect the meeting to be cancelled in view of the outcry from all parties.

For a political party submerged in anti-semitic recent history, its actions in even thinking about meeting with, and thereby promoting, Hamas is naive to say the least. By the way, I'm amazed that you think the Head of the Palestinian Mission has a point in saying the slaughter of 1000 innocent people was in any way justified.

Sorry I'm still waiting for evidence that Lammy, who this morning has called Hamas a 'terrorist organisation' is "cosying up to Hamas". Are you going to retract that? Or is this really how you want people to see the world? Where we don't listen to what they say but what someone else says if they happen to be scheduled to speak on a panel. Is that healthy? Because I don't think that's a path anyone wants to go down, and I promise few would come out well, on the right or left.

1. I didn't say it was justified. No rational interpretation of my post could possibly arrive at that conclusion.

2. Tenuous means 'slight' or 'weak'. The opposite is robust. It certainly isn't 'thick'.

Well, just back to my apartment and it's been an interesting day.

I was on my panel with Oliver Coppard, Mayor of South Yorkshire, and Stella Creasy MP discussing the relative merits of devolution - and to quote them "we should keep inviting you back to conference to challenge us" - they may have been being polite but it felt sincere.

In the audience was Jessie Joe Jacobs who I voted for when she stood for TV Mayor and she said something similar about Labour in the Tees Valley. I've known her for years as she set up a charity for DV victims - which is still going and does great work.

Another session on community ownership of assets was very good and I've just been to a Demos sponsored session on local government reforms.

I stumbled into Labour for Israel, who looked a bit traumatised to be honest.

And whilst going for my dinner I had to navigate some old white people waving Palestinian flags (outside of the secure zone); I thought the timing is distasteful and politically stupid after what Hamas has just done - but it wasn't threatening at all. But it's not a good look.

There's that EU nutter from outside of the HoC shouting about you can't improve a Tory Brexit with a Labour one - and some fella singing songs with a PA system imploring us to rejoin the EU. They don't appear to be getting much traction though.

I had some quick chats with the Hartlepool delegation, councillors, and the next Parliamentary candidate who I know very well.

My dinner was a chick burger in a barm cake from a school bus converted eatery. Literally just a deep fried chicken burger in a barm cake no lettuce or sauce. Tasty enough but basic.

I'm off to an event at 7 and my tea at 8.

Stella Creasy...I like Stella Creasy.

That's the thing about political conferences, you can't stage-manage everyone. There's going to be Labour for Israel and Labour for Palestine. Neither of which is harmful as a belief. It's just when an event happens that things get attached to it.

He didn't say it, it was the bloke sat next to him. Condemned by association.

Bloody hell...thanks.

And the Tory Party conference is what?
Nowhere near as bad as this bunch of weirdos

I sometimes wonder why some of the hard liner lefties don't start their own party

I guess its because they wouldn't get as much money from the party coffers and champagne socialist benefactors

Just remember...

I think anyone with an serious interest in politics are as bad as the politicians themselves. Con artists, all for themselves and not fit for a hard days graft.

I used to get quite involved with politics but these days I simply can not take any of them seriously, I still watch a bit on tv but I find myself getting super annoyed very quickly.

It does seem, however, that when Labour get together it also attracts all sorts of nutcases with an axe to grind, my solution would be pretty simplistic but I fear the world has gone way too far down too many ridiculous rabbit holes for simplicity and common sense ever to be the norm again.

Point of order: anti-semitic and anti Israel are not the same thing.
