Could anyone recommend a good gastro pub, with accommodation, preferably in the South Lakes region...Many thanks beforehand

Not quite the south lakes but there’s a new place in Ambleside a couple of people have mentioned to me. The Tap Yard.

edit to add - sorry just noticed you want accommodation as well. Don’t think that’s available. But pop in anyway and let us know what you think.

Another vote for the Mason's, can be a bugger to find mind.
Drunken Duck and Wheatsheaf at Brigsteer good too.

I have a picture of Mex sat outside the Masons waiting for it to open from the mid 70's. Yes he really is that old, and still sits outside pubs waiting for them to open.

Damson Dene Hotel near Crossthwaite (which has the Punch Bowl one time Michel Roux foodie).

Was nice when I went a few years back but since upgraded - its on the same road as Brown Horse but you hit the Damson first (and pass sign for Mason’s) on the A5074 off the A590 Barrow Road (about 6 miles in)

Queens Head Hawkshead
Drunken Duck Inn
I stayed in Hawkshead just 4 weeks ago at Kings Arms which was excellent , I had previously stayed in Queens Head which was also excellent, but noticed a sign outside Queens Head stating that they could not serve food due to shortage of hospitality staff , hopefully they have sorted that out , but a great recommendation, also enjoyed Hawkshead bitter 😀

Queens Head has been bought by Individual Inns (they have the Masons Arms and Fountaine Inn which are both excellent) Interesting re the staff shortage, we were at The Swan at Newby Bridge a month ago and the service was poor (food was good) Wonder if they were having the same issue?
