Lancs staying in tier 2 ...

I was under the impression we were going to tier 3 so this is some turn round.

All a bit wrong this. It seems that the Gov have negotiations with the LA's to enter the 3rd tier and if they break down you stay in 2.

I’ve been thinking the same. I’m happy we’re still in tier 2, as I’m scuppered when the pubs shut, but it all seems a bit wishy washy when the LA’s seem to have the last word on it.

Short answer is without the l/auth active cooperation Central gov't will struggle to enforce the restrictions

Apparently the ' talks ' were a joke with no questions allowed

Sounded like it was a done deal last night with just negotiation on compensation left. Interesting.

That's the prob, GJ, central govt want to shut y'all down, with nowhere enough financial backing, so Mayors are currently saying no.

Andy Burnham kicking off.
Quite right too. My daughter is a trainee bar manager in Manchester. Receiving two thirds of your wages for up to 6 months may sound doable, but...

1. She only earns just over the minimum wage so losing a third seriously affects her ability to pay her rents and bills etc.
2. In normal times, a significant part of her weekly wages involves doing some extra hours - plus tips... so "two thirds" is in effect less than half of her normal wage. Who, on this forum (or anywhere) would like that?
3. There are, of course, thousands of other low paid workers in Manchester (and Lancashire, the North East, West Yorkshire and Liverpool - surprised they "agreed" to the Tier 3 support package so meekly tbh) in the same situation. Furlough, at 80%, was reasonable.
4. This also assuming the business package received from the Govt (for the pub chain she works for) is also good enough for them to continue trading in the future.

Luckily for her, the bank of mum and dad can help out. Not everyone has that luxury.
