Lavery- the potential that was never fulfilled

I remember being at Bristol City away, first game of the Championship season. If memory serves correctly we were 1-0 down and needing a goal. Sub made and on comes Lavery for his debut. A ball put into the danger area by Bowler and it's met by Lavery to put us 1-1 in the last min of play. Welcome to the seaside Lavery. I think it's fair to say that Lavery had potential to be a decent striker for us and in the Championship, but the one thing that always let him down was that he kept getting injured. It could be suggested that Lavery was in Yates shado, but this season he had his opportunity to make a difference. Pre-season he was on fire and many of us were so excited about him with quite a few suggesting that he would be league one top goal scorer. However, another injury after another injury stopped him playing and evidently come the end of this season you could see that all his confidence had gone too. A really nice lad and in a way it's sad to see him go, but it is probably best for both Lavery and Blackpool fc to start a fresh. A big thank you to Lavery for his goals and his contribution and I'm sure that I speak on behalf of a lot of bfc supporters in wishing him the very best of luck for the rest of his career.

It’s a real shame to see his decline. I was one of those who put £50 on him to finish top scorer.
He just didn’t look fit whenever you watched him. His mind was willing and he always tried so hard but he just seemed to have lost his pace and composure.

He needed to make a move and I think he will score goals if he picks the right team. Appleton playing him as a left midfielder was the beginning of the end with us but the subsequent injuries have taken their toll , I would have been gutted if he had left this time last year but it doesn’t feel that big a loss now.

At seasons start, almost every player said Lavs would be nailed on to be top scorer. The stop - start of his injuries have not helped, be he still has the bits of his game that work. I really hope he gets a good gig and kicks on and does well. One of my faves over the past years. You could never question his work rate !

At one point it looked like we'd found an absolute gem.

Nippy, sharp, deadly finishing. Then the injuries.

But tbf he did come back at the start of the season and looked great, but again slipped away with lack of form and injuries.

A real shame we never really got that initial player back. His pressing though was always top notch, a real pest.

Always seemed a lovely lad and I'm sure he'll be back at Bloomfield as a guest in the future.

Still had some good goals and moments for us, his first one really set the tone for that season.

We didn't play particularly well against Bristol City but when the changes came we were on top for a spell at the end and a quality move was met with a quality finish. It made us and even Critchley jump for joy.

Even though I said time to move on on another thread it's still quite sad to see some of these guys go, who've been a big part of us for the last few seasons.

Even more annoying the players didn't get a good encore applause for the last home game due to a poor PA system.
