Thangam Debbonaire, shadow housing secretary and MP for Bristol West, added: "The scenes of violence and direct attack on the police in Bristol city centre will distress most people, including anyone who believes in defending the right to peaceful democratic protest."

Darren Jones, Labour MP for Bristol North West, tweeted that the scenes in the city were "completely unacceptable".

"You don't campaign for the right to peaceful protest by setting police vans on fire or graffitiing buildings," he said.


I would ask you to have a serious think about what you post, the facts it’s based on and stop living in a dreamworld of conspiracy theory. All I will add about the Home Secretary is just listen to the people that used to work for her and I think you’ll have the truth except they’ve been paid off with gagging orders ! That’s the democracy you reside in

It’s embarrassing and a disgrace. They lose any credibility they might have expected and spoil it for every peaceful demonstration that may have been possible.
They have one purpose, to attack the police in the name of ‘freedoms.’
Each of those officers is someone’s son or daughter doing a job. A disgrace.

Does it really matter whether these people are left-wing, right-wing, or whatever?

The original demo was hijacked by those who wish to cause trouble, who want to cause chaos, mayhem and anarchy, not by people who fear the new Bill turning us into a Police state. If we were a Police state, the officers would not have stood with their shields to protect property and be the target of these thugs, they would have been armed, used tear gas, water cannon, paintballs and even live rounds as they do in Myanmar, Belaruse and so on.

These people are a danger to democracy not the opposite, and it will take years for Bristol to heal as it now seems to be a centre for disruption and violent protest. It will be a target for the lunatic squads of both left and right, I know, having lived in Bradford since 1982.

A great City having its reputation spoiled by whoever is responsible for these acts. Poor Bristolians.
 
I don’t see why they allow protests, even peaceful ones at the moment. We’re in lockdown and you are only allowed to go out for essential reasons. Protesting is not essential.

So if it’s ok to walk aryin large groups, close together, with or without masks, it must be ok for everyone to leave home, anytime, for any reason and meet whoever, and as many as they like anywhere.

So, anyone up for a home game against Peterborough tomorrow? Your allowed unless you cause trouble.
 
This should be condemned for what it is: thuggish behaviour by a feral minority directed at the police. And I am sure nobody on here would condone that.

Prematurely labelling them as "anarchists" is just melodramatic cliche; they are a collection of young mindless morons attracted to the prospect of a night of trouble, as moths are to a flame.

Hopefully arrests will follow with corrective punitive measures administered.

No shooting necessary though...

It was the Anti Anything Brigade along with some stupid probably pissed up youngsters who are rebelling against being locked down. They’ll squeal when they get identified, arrested and fined. “It’s just not fair” 🙄
