Levelling up

You would like to think that even the most committed Tory voters were seeing through the illusion now.
They don't care about you!!
Self interest, financial or career/ego, and ensuring that billionaires get the tax breaks they want and their agendas fulfilled, that's what the Tories are about.
The Conservative party needs killing off.
Working people with right of centre views need something new to represent them, same can be said for left of centre and Labour.
Out with the old and in with the new so that the majority of people get true representation would be a great thing, maybe this oncoming recession will help to bring it about.

The problem with that is people are too entrenched in their voting. Even if there was anyone else worth voting for they just cant see past their usual vote.

I find the article a bit chauvinistic how dare a female do a million pound deal you rarely here from women MPs and what their husbands are up to.

Laziness, ignorance and entrenched voting make it far too easy for Tory and Labour especially those in safe seats.
At the very least to give all the population more of a say in the running of the country we need to dump first past the post voting.

What annoys me the most is that it’s all just empty words. Chuck a phrase out there like ‘Levelling up’ because it sounds like the right thing to do (and catch a few voters). When there’s no plan to make it happen or any intention to get any meaningful schemes off the ground.
I’ve got better ideas myself. One person. Maybe I should be running / ruining the country instead of these overpaid, entitled muppets!

Just wait for the engineered crash. Tory ministers will hoover up properties by the bucketful.
Rinse and repeat. Sell council houses to those you know will never be able to keep up with mortgage repayments. Especially if you ensure interest rates are going up at the same time and they can Ill afford to heat or eat Let alone repay an ever increasing mortgage.
The vultures can then jump in , buy the houses up cheap at the auctions and rent them out for at least 3 times the current going rate. Job done.

Meanwhile the same paper is reporting that Johnson has rejected a plea to give starving kids free school meals meaning that 1 million kids will go hungry during school holidays. I would have thought that the need was greater now than during the pandemic when a football player had to embarrass the government into action.
Never mind I’m sure she’ll turn her supermarkets into food banks to lend a hand.

That’s Politicians for ya...

Did the Tory minister buy a supermarket? No

Was it bought this year? No

Does his wife run a supermarket? No, she just bought investment land, part of which is leased to the Co-op

Is this news of any kind or just the Mirror scraping around the bottom of a barrel?

Personally I think that the Labour Party should kick Keir Starmer out of the leadership.
He doesn't come across very well as a leader.
Their must be someone better?

It's a poor thing that a leader has to win Stars in their Eyes in order to run the country these days. However, you're probably right - if only he knew it, I think Andy Burnham's time has come.

A pity the Labour Party didn’t realise his time had come in 2015 as we might not be in this much shit now.

Why would the Tories vote for a stop to first past the post when they've been winning with it and have changed boundaries to consolidate their position.

My mother had three jobs. But it was to keep the wolves from the door and food on the table because labour bashed everyone with high inflation. So much for representing the working class.
I had three jobs myself because the Tories had interest rates at 14%. The losers are the British people because our political class is probably the worst in Europe.

It was labour who raised the interest rates to 15%. she was a member of the Labour Party but hated them ever since for that.

Just looked at interest rates going back to 1971. Highest ever was November 1979 (under Thatcher) and remained well above 10% right through the 80s.

Are you confusing interest and inflation? Inflation was high in the 70s under both Labour and the Tories.

It was def under labour rule.
Nearly everything in my lifetime has been under Tory rule, as an adult I think Labour have only been in power under Blair/Brown. Can't stand Blair but the education my kids got was so much better than mine, think the health care was better aswell. Don't know why he went all American and got involved in an unnecessary war.

My first vote was in the 1979 election and Maggie won. Tories then in power until 1997.

Labour 1997-2010 then Cons back in to this day, albeit propped up for a while by the Lib Dems, then latterly by the DUP through a series of bribes.

So from 79 to 2022 we have been Tory apart from the Blair era which lasted 13 years and were probably the best for me and my family.
How do the Conservatives manage to take no responsibility and dish out loads of blame, so many of the population seem to fall for it!
You'd almost have to admire them if you were a fan of self serving, backward thinking , insular, manipulative, traitorous, duplicitous, crooks!!

1970’s

I was a kid and more interested in the six million dollar man and playing football for hours on end. In my adult life the best for me and my family was under Labour and I'm not a habitual Labour voter. The interest thing was definitely the Conservatives.

Ah multimillionaire Blair who was a Tory in disguise

He kind of was but schools and health were better than now. I wouldn't get too hung up on the Tory v Labour thing, the status quo is the problem to a large extent, what we need is the best people to do the best for all the people. Our electoral system doesn't allow it.

They manage to ‘pass the buck because they have the Tory press in their back pockets, more than happy to help them out q

Looking back at these arguments only highlights the fact that the Left don’t like the Right and the Right don’t like the Left. Where’s all the clever young politicians with centrist views that suit both parties.

Reported that Wyre and Fylde have missed out on £50 million of levelling up cash from Lancashire county council. Is that because there were better bids, or because they submitted incompetent bids, or they didn’t submit any at all.

Clever politicians looking to serve and unite the population, fantastic idea, but like you say where are they?!!
Maybe we need to try and find them in different to places because the system we use now doesn't really work for bout 95% of us!!

If it's an article about the Tories then, to be sure, it's about scraping the bottom of the barrel.
