Liam Feeney

Hi all,

Number of rumours our end (Tranmere) that we are set to sign Feeney this week

Just wondered whether you had heard anything?

Not sure if it's a loan or a permanent deal

Good player for us last season, bombed down the wing and had a good cross on him, hence he was awarded with most assists. However this season due to a different philosophy he doesnt get game time. Would be a good acquisition for you guys.

Think it would be a permanent deal for him. Doesn’t suit our new managers tactics but if you’ve got a big target man who’s strong in the air Liam can put the ball on his head.

Would be a decent signing for League Two, even more so if you have someone up front who can get on the end of his crosses.

If there is any truth to these rumours, good luck to him.

A centre forwards dream. Keeps things simple by shifting the ball and delivering early. His crossing ability is excellent and would be one of the better players in L2. It's clear he is available for transfer as NC only wants to work with U23s.

Some of you lot must have been watching a different Feeney to me.

He cant run past his man, he’s light weight and yes he had the most assists last season but that’s only because our tactic last season was to play it out right time and time again.

Fingers crossed the rumours are right and he goes to TR. 🤞🏻

Thats a bit harsh TP but there is some truth in there. Liam Feeney had a sensational season last year but he lacks pace and as a consequence finds it hard to beat a man. He also doesnt tackle back enough. Our new system is reliant upon pace and press and Feeney was never likely to be a good fit. I thought he would end up at Bolton, Wigan or Tranmere tbh.

He may not fit our new system but he can certainly cross a ball better than anything we saw yesterday. Good look to the guy. He has been a decent player for us

I don’t think we’ll miss him yet I still think he can be a great signing for someone else. His limitations are documented above, but with tactics that suit him and a striker to aim at, he’ll set up goals, which is a fairly important thing in football I’ve heard!

Doesn’t fit into our tactics his best position last season was when we played with a back 3 and he was right of that and freedom to bomb forward and put crosses in the box.
When we went to a back 4 and he played further up and had to do more passing and midfielder duties he was poor so it will all depend what system Tranmere play to get the best out of him.

Feeney is great as long as you play him as what he is - a right winger who gets crosses in. He's effective without thrilling, works hard without being defensively great but he'll reliably receive the ball, go down the right and cross it. He knows his game and if the cross isn't on, he'll usually win a corner. I don't know if you've still got Ferrier and Vaughan but if so, I would imagine they'll enjoy the service.

If you play him on the wrong side or mess about trying to play him behind the front two or a playmaker, then he's half the player at best.

There's something pleasingly unfussy and old fashioned about him and if he's off, I wish him the best.

I hope he goes - I bet Spearing has tipped them off. Clear he's not part of our plans and too good a player to be sat on the bench!

Strange one is LF

Apart from last season.I’ve never rated him either here, or anywhere else he’s been.
Had a really good patch last season but in pre-season he looked like the average player I always thought he was.
He’s obviously not in the managers plans. Good luck to him though.

I watched him at Salisbury when he was about 19, unbelievable talent. Always rated him.

Time and time again I read about how great he is at crosses and game after game every cross he puts in is absolute garbage. He was our only outlet last season so it was bound to happen he would put in a couple of good ones but overall they are actually quite poor.

Really strange because he was one of the highest assists of goals in football in England last season? So that is definitely one of the strangest posts this forum has ever seen.

As others have said, he easily won our Player Of The Season awards last season, despite being regularly man-marked by the opposition.
Sorry if he decides to go, but he will be a great acquisition for you.

Gnanduillet would have easily been our player of the season, if so many of our fans weren't so twisted in their lack of appreciation.
When the league one players voted, they picked Gnanduillet in their team of the season. Even though he has never managed to trap an actual bag of cement.

I think there's something being overlooked here.
Critchley is repeatedly going on about players buying in to the plans, the tactics, the attitude, the team spirit, the whole new ethos of the club. The players have to be the right fit, the right personality, the right attitude.
I think you would be justified in having reservations about any player who was prepared to sign for a club under boycott from its own fans. I know we'll get the "it's only a job" replies and "they have bills to pay" - but put yourself in the manager's position.

I mean if Gnando wasn't there, then I am sure there would have been someone else. The quality of ball will have always attracted goals.
I don't agree with that line of thought at all. Goalscorers are the hardest players to find, and the most expensive. If Feeney hadn't been there, someone else would have provided the assists.

I would keep him on. Some on here may not rate him but opposition defenders certainly did last season. Buy a couple of strikers now who put the ball in the net on a regular basis that is a big priority IMO.

Fair enough Kurt. I’m clearly missing something when I see these poor crosses and it must be someone else.

That's nonsense I'm afraid Voy reference there being someone else to simply provide the assists. Has there been a better crosser of the ball at Manchester United since David Beckham? Nope. A quality crosser of the ball is important. Just look at people like Charlie Adam who can take corners.

Really Like Feens, but looks like he is not in the managers plans at this time. Probably better he gets first team football elsewhere and looks after himself during the lest few years of his career. All power to the man. Thanks for last seasons efforts.

You started the nonsense by making out that anybody on the end of those crosses would score. It's the bigger nonsense of the two, Kurt. If I could have Gnanduillet or Feeney in the squad now, it would be Gnanduillet. Doesn't need a moment's thought. Simple decision.

Nope, not nonsense at all. The quality of the ball majority of the time made the goal. You cannot tell me you just replace that quality of cross, we've not seen it since Charlie Adam. Yet we've had goalscorers since then. So yeah, makes perfect sense.

Not to me. I'd have Gnanduillet over Feeney every day of the week.

But we aren't talking about that are we? You're stating it's easier to cross than to score.

Go and watch the highlights of last season and how many times Feeney put the ball on a plate for Gnando. I loved Gnando too and appreciated him like others.

But no one has crossed the ball better than Feeney for Blackpool since Charlie Adam. Or created more assists and chances. And for reference Feeney has had a far better career than Gnando. And played about 50% of his career in the Championship.

It's OK, I get that you saw him when he was 19. 😉

Yes and if your father or mother had used contraception the time you were conceived you would'nt have etc😁

I think people are remembering last season through rose colored specs.
I like Feeney, but a lot of his crosses either fail to beat the first defender of completely over shot the box. I accept he had a great assist record, but he was our only outlet last season and if you hit enough crosses some are bound to stick.

Especially with the mercurial Armand prowling in wait.
