Might put what we have into perspective.....

@lucalcfc: Shocking. Best manager we could ask for. Thank you for everything! Top top gaffer

@Robbeezley: Thank you Michael, like all fans we weren’t happy when losing but you’ve defo done good for us as well so I wish you well

@PaulCarrott3: I really hope that was Michael’s decision and not ours. Massive blow for @LincolnCity_FC

@Jamesbenno7: Got a feeling that in 12months we might regret this decision. Top coach/manger but unfortunately injuries and players not working out have cost him. I would still have kept him as we’ve seen when he gets it right it really is something! Thank you MA for 3yrs

@nicktparker: Thanks to Michael Appleton for all that you’ve done for our club. There have been highs and lows but I really appreciate all your efforts to get us to the brink of the championship and to keep us in the 3rd tier for the longest period in my lifetime. All the best for your future.

@jackreed14: Michael, thank you for everything you have done! Shame to see you go sooner rather than later but wishing you all the best in your new adventures! #impsasone

@impyblue: Thanks Michael you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone. You deserve better

@SamComins1: Good Luck Michael. You got us so close to the championship and we’ll never forget that. Yes this season was a struggle but our league on status is assured for next season so we thank you for that. Good luck on your next challenge. UTI.

@redimps76: Be careful what you wish for. He has done a great job on a limited budget.

@GeorgeBassUK: Gutted, we’ve played some of the best football I’ve ever seen in the red and white, particularly last season. Thanks for the memories Michael and best of luck in the future!

@mitson16: Very shocked all the best to him but we need to move forward and we need to get a experience league one or championship manager. We move on #ImpsAsOne

@smee1966: That’s a bit of a shock. Felt the time was right with D&N but feels a bit early for this and we could have kicked on next season. Wish MA and his family all the best. Wont be surprised if he goes to a club with a bigger budget to build a team with

@kazziehuddy: Honestly gutted but thanks for all you have done and all the best in the future

@churchybabes: Nooooo, I didn’t want the rumours to be true. I’ve always supported him and I for one will miss him. Thank you Michael and good luck for the future

@maharby: There will be those on here applauding this, I think you need to be really careful what you wish for. Remember if it wasn’t for Michael’s reputation we wouldn’t have seen the likes of Brennon Johnson in a City shirt. This is not a good thin

@JordanWTFane07: I think people have underestimated how hard it is for smaller clubs after an unsuccessful playoff campaign, just look at what’s happened to Barnsley, we may not have made the progress wanted, but staying in the league is still a success and a lot of that is down to Appleton

@Charli321: I’m gutted by this. To all the haters, be careful what you wish for. #ImpsAsOne #ThankYouMichael

@NGlliver: Damn shocked. Let’s hope we get someone actually good in and not just fall into the same traps most league 1 clubs do

@harte_sam: In shock, all the best! Last season is a great memory

@andyhelson: Just seen this. Gutted, properly gutted. Big was the person to take us forward. Some of the best performances I’ve seen at the Bank.

@jordbrown96: He can leave with his held high. Divided opinion among the fan base at times, but to get us one game from the Championship and giving us memorable wins against huge clubs, while battling a horrendous injury crisis, is something he can be proud of. Best of luck, Michael

@happinessjohn83: In shock!! Surprised and very disappointed but good luck for the future Michael.

@adamf_99: Can’t believe this. No words

@WillStacey14: Gutted doesn’t describe it, thank you Appleton for everything you did! Sean Dyche will now take the wheel and guide us to the promise land

Interesting stuff. Thanks for posting.

Sound an educated bunch. Some of our lot will be chanting Appleton out as soon as we go 1 down at home, cringeworthy and I don’t know what the answer is.
I think people are already coming round.

People didn't expect it to be him, it was Rosenior all along, but wasn't.

Maybe we had a lucky escape....

All the criticisms are way ott and he actually did well at Lincoln and was loved.

He played for the nobbers but isn't one.

He left us but was dealing with Karl and was finding it very hard.

He's here now and needs to be supported fully.

Michael Appleton did well at Lincoln in the playoff season, as he had Brennan Johnson, Morgan Rogers (both loans) and Jorge Grant (Cowley signing). As a Lincoln member, he was not roundly liked, and many are delighted he has gone. The Cowleys were loved at Lincoln and in the wider area. Appleton had no personality or link with the fans.

Lincoln home form last year. Won 7, drawn 5, lost 11. 25 goals for, 29 against. The home football was dross.

Their better performances were away from home.

Yet many clealry liked him and realised the season after the playoffs was difficult, losing big players, the hangover, his medical issues.

The last season wasn't inspiring but its probably not fair to judge entirely off that.

'Good move for Appleton, though - up the level and more local, but a weird one for Blackpool? Can't say that Appleton shies away from following successful managers in Cowley and now Critchley!'

'They don't seem very happy at all. Funny, after 20/21 I would have said he would make a bigger step up. After 21/22 I'm surprised he has got a Championship gig...'

'Surprised he’s got that job after a meh season with us
4 year contract certainly looks a decent deal for him
The locals don’t appear thrilled and his PR style isn’t captivating so he’ll need some decent performances and results sharpish'

'4 year contract seems mental and I’m surprised he’s gone up a league, but he obviously interviews very well.'

I watched many Lincoln games under Appleton. He was lucky that he had Brennan Johnson, Morgan Rogers and Jorge Grant. Three fine players. Last season was dross and many home supporters stopped going. The atmosphere fell away too. The Lincoln ground was buzzing under the Cowleys and the 617 made great noise, like our North Stand. Sorry my views arent popular but I witnessed it first hand.

That’s made me feel a bit better (optimistic).

Were lucky weve got Lavery etc 😏

Well just have to see, different club and far more backing here.

The board have seen something in him, he still had to manage Lincoln with those loans and get the loans in.

They had a really good squad that season. Doing well was highly likely.

The 4 year deal has been cleverly negotiated. We can’t afford to pay big monthly wages so if we were to sack him during his tenure the net pay out for him would be similar to what we’d have to give him had we paid him a bucketload over 2 years.

The poor guy’s been through a lot in the last year or so and I wish him well - but it’s still a meh appointment. After three exciting years I think we’ve stalled a bit here. Recruitment will be key, but at the moment I fear this season will be a real struggle.

Lincoln have a wonderful board of directors. Clive Nates is based in South Africa and loves the club. He gives so much support, like Simon Sadler. The Cowleys were amazing for Lincoln, the city and the county. They got on so well with the supporters, just how Critchley did it at Blackpool. Have a look at some 617 squadron clips of the atmosphere. Appleton made no connection with the fans or city.

Yeah not all good, as you'd expect.

Especially after the season they had, but was always going to be tough after losing th final and losing those loans plus his personal battle.

He still had to get that Lincoln team playing well, whoever he had, in that season we went up and would have done so if it wasn't for a tricky playoff side.

Well he will here, because he has to...

They said its important he connects with the fans.

People change as they learn from experiences so let's give him that chance.

Just goes to show, there's two sides to every story. Im not optimistic about his appiontment at all and the only thing that's going to make me feel positive about it is if he does well, which I can't see happening.

Critch had a connection but did not hang around.
Willing to give Appleton time but transfers in are key

The Cowleys always celebrated with the Coop stand at Lincoln. Just like Critchley did with the North Stand. The atmosphere was buzzing at Sincil Bank. They did great work in the city and county too. None of that from Appleton.

I hope he does well at Blackpool, but as a Lincolnshire based seasider, I feel completely gutted.

I think at best it’s got consolidation written all over it, which isn’t surprising given how much is being put into the training ground and planning a new stand

This is a selection of the pro Appleton quotes. There’s no balance in the post And it’s quite clear from some of the comments there were many happy to see him go. I think the best we can do is try and keep an open mind.

Personally I think the problem is Ian Holloway. He gave us a style of football we could only have dreamt of and every manager following has been judged by that standard. We were promised that everyone in charge wanted us to play football the right way and assumed that meant entertaining football. Hopefully during their 3 interviews (if true) with Appleton it became clear that he was the best candidate to provide that.

His relationship with the players is going to be a massive factor in his success or otherwise and up to now I’ve not read anything which gives us an insight into how well he’s got on with his players at other clubs.

Yes but you will always get comments like that look at us after critch went.

They had just had a poor season due to various reasons.

Watch his radio lances interview comes across well.

I'm not 100% certain if I went to any away games during Michael Appleton's previous reign as manager here, as I had stopped going to home games after us buying nobody in the August 2012 transfer window.
The one thing always in his favour was that he only put up with Oystonism for about two months before resigning as manager.
We should give him a chance now he has got proper backing behind him. I think we will do better this season, finishing in the top half, and perhaps even flirting with the playoffs. Neil Critchley did us proud when he took us up in his first season, then comfortably kept us in The Championship, but I felt his tactics had been sussed by opposing sides, and a plan B was urgently required for next season
I am really looking forward to what next season brings, and can't wait for it to start.
