I wonder if any of the seven will be of any interest to Critch?

The seven released are:

Goalkeeper Oscar Kelly (20)
Goalkeeper Liam Hughes (21)

Defender Charlie Hayes-Green (18)
Defender Oludare Olufunwa (21)

Midfielder Jack Bearne (aged 21)

Forward Fidel O'Rourke (21)
Forward Iwan Roberts (18)

nope.

Clubs the size of Liverpool hoarde talent. Even if they know they'll never be good enough for their 1st team, they often loan them out for a number of seasons, just in case. If they've dumped these players off, I'd probably give them a wide birth. We need proven L1 players, the loan model is fine if they've at least had some experience of mens football but not the likes of those on that list.

We need to be looking at their young players who have had experience of their u23's and then playing in League One or Two and excelling.
Not what we need at this point.
We should be trying to bring in their most talented youngsters on loan, not the ones they've released.

They’re very good too at getting decent transfer fees for decent but not amazing players.

Every summer they seem to sell about 4 or 5 players for around £5m to lower Prem or relegated Prem teams.

More than funds their academy

Oludare Olufunwa only signed for them from Southampton last summer and was considered a decent talent, his only career appearances so far are in the pizza cup though, which at the age of 21 is zero use for his development.

Could be a player amongst that list and Critchley is the perfect guy to know about their talents, I'd be surprised if we signed any of them but if we did you'd have to back the managers judgement.

The big boys release a lot each year. There will certainly be some that would be able to make a big impression in L1 and more than good enough for the Championship. Players like Bowler don't get given a chance in the Premier League. Hopefully we have identified a few and can bring them in.

It's that which damages a lot of players' progress. They should be playing against men by 18 or 19, not hiding in Academies playing against fellow kids until 23.

Kind of feel sorry for these young lads. Dreams shattered and all that. But that’s life I guess.

It's worth saying that not all released players are the least talented of the group. Liverpool, for example, might be well stocked on left wingers, so release the 3rd choice, even though he's a better player than the retained right back.

The key for someone like us is to forge a relationship so you're having these conversations throughout the season and not from a released 'list'.

If only we had someone with academy links......

Think they also get loan fees hence the likes of Williams being kept on the books when they clearly are never going to make it at the top level.

They do throw money at the academy though, mate of mine taught a kid who was in their academy (they wanted him to go to the local private school but his parents refused as he was happy at his local school in Preston) - mate queued up behind him at lunch and he had £12k on his dinner money card 😮. Then when his morning covid test came back positive, instead of going straight home, a private ambulance arrived in 25 minutes and took him for a proper covid test… he signed a 2 year contract after completing GCSEs on £5k per week.

Can’t be good for the many who don’t make it. They earn more in their first 2 years of their career than any other unless they make championship or above.
