Loan Stars

My philosophy on loans has always been that we don't get them in to be in the first team, they are squad players and if they work themselves in to the first team then all well and good. The problem last season was we used the loans as first team players and I think it lead to a lot of our problems.

Completely the opposite, makes no sense for the loan club or the parent club for someone to come in on loan and not be able to influence the first team straight away, if you're going down your route you may as well develop you're own players as someone else's

Critchley has said as much already in Pre season, we'll do loans if it's someone who really improves us (in the mould of Simms, Ballard etc) but there's no way clubs would bring in a player on loan to sit on the bench.

Of course they don't always work these deals for various reasons, but make no mistake loans are brought in with an expectation that they can make the team better from day 1

As Critch has said, not a lot of sense in bringing in several loan stars and then. having to replace half the team at the end of a season ( if successful). However in one or two good signings like with Simms or Embleton or Ballard who can make a big difference to the seasons outcome would be great.

I'd agree with Marton and say I think that's the exact opposite of what loans should be.

They should raise the ceiling of the team by having a quality/potential that we couldn't afford otherwise. Our promotion season we had Gabriel, Simms, Ballard who were all undoubtedly out of our price range at that time - and then to a lesser extent Embleton who was a "riskier" option i'd say.

To me the problem last season wasn't that the loans weren't good enough, its the team they were added to wasn't up to scratch. Some were rubbish (Williams, Corbeanu) but you can't tell me Fiorini, Patino and Rodgers weren't good enough for the championship and a better quality player than what we had available - but the team we'd built didn't suit them (i.e. both Fiorini and Patino needed someone akin to Norburn alongside them).

In fairness I always felt Critch’s loans last time did that whereas Appleton just seemed to be plucking names from thin air!

I imagine some loans will arrive a bit later on in the window. Manager's will take a look at them during pre-season. There will be many that aren't good enough for the top clubs but would do very well in League One. I would always prefer an option to buy if possible though.

Equally, no sense in signing players on longer contracts like Dale, 'Lucky Escape' Kirk et al and being stuck with them when you've outgrown them.

Josh Feeney from Villa
I coached josh as a kid at poulton alongside his dad, great family, local lad and has turned himself into a very decent player, wouldnt be against him at all although if he is ready Physically for league 1 im not sure

Like to think our city links are decent so Dire mebude or Ben knight would do nicely - knight on perm poss

Charlie Adam? DJ Campbell? Seamus Coleman?

The problem with all our loans last season that they where kids learning the game so one week you get an 8/10 next a 4 they should have been playing in Lge 1 or 2 not the rough and tough Championship which is in the top ten leagues in the World.

Stirling,Wintle in their 20's same for Adam,DJ,Shelvey etc even Coleman was nearly 22.
Now in the third tier we can go back to youth like Simms and Ballard worked last time.
