Not viable to have a national lockdown in the middle of August, it would be utterly ineffective and ignored.Chris Witty was warning this morning it could happen.
If all shops and bars were shut down again it wouldn't leave much to do here. Agree that it would be ignored though. Not viable to have a national lockdown in the middle of August, it would be utterly ineffective and ignored.
That article doesn’t seem to mention anything about lockdown in 5 weeks?
Has he actually said something different this morning or has someone in the press misinterpreted or misquoted him?
So where does Chris Whitty say that then … There’s no mention of him saying we will be back in lockdown in 5 weeks at all… not that I can see..
I dunno that's just what I found and I'm taking it n trust. So where does Chris Whitty say that then … There’s no mention of him saying we will be back in lockdown in 5 weeks at all… not that I can see..
I’ve skipped through it of course, but the headline doesn’t appear to match the reality.

It’s a rather frivolous interpretation of what he actually said, I’d say and he didn’t say it this morning either, the comments are from yesterday evening.I dunno that's just what I found and I'm taking it n trust.
OK… Well maybe you should read what the articles that have sensationalised his actual words have quoted him as saying Mac, instead of pouring scorn on me who has done so.The OP and the Tweet say that Witty said it. That leads me to believe he did.
Instead of pouring scorn on it because you cannot find it try Googling "Chris witty says lockdown in 5 weeks" and you'll see it's reported all over the media.

I’m not nitpicking… He hasn’t said it… The media have skewed his words. It’s not like you x3 to nitpick

I'm in SI due to being pinged. The way things are going (half a million) currently in self isolation already and it’s going to double according to one report I read I n the next two weeks no where will be open for people to go even public transport could be decimated.
In fairness l haven’t heard him use those words either,I’m not nitpicking… He hasn’t said it… The media have skewed his words.
For those who've had it, yes.Oh dear is the vaccine not working?
I can see the numbers are inflated by false pings, but equally the numbers will be understated as not everyone who is in SI has been pinged.I'm in SI due to being pinged.
The NHS app has recently been updated and is causing problems. To be in SI doesn't mean you are infected.
I was working in a hospital when pinged, in an sterile department wearing full PPE with no patients anywhere near me....that is the problem with the app, it's indescriminate.
I've also had 2 jabs and 4 weeks ago was sat next to a selfish ** who knew he had covid but didn't tell anyone...the reason, he didn't want to lose wages.....
I'm not bullet proof but the figures are being distorted.
I don’t think it’s that the vaccine isn’t working, there is still about a third of the country over 18’s not vaccinated. That’s a lot of people to carry the virus toOh dear is the vaccine not working?
Some will take the piss, but they will be the same ones that did the same all through the lockdown, hopefully it won’t effect things much more. If the sensible ones use their noggins we might avoid further restrictions, but I’m far from convinced. It’s the death rate I’ll be watching & serious hospital admissions. We also need to build some slack into the NHS ASAP.I think it’s a case of us all being as sensible and considerate as possible, including the deniers.Redirect Notice

If we want to keep the death rate down and the economy to stay open then we need to do our bit and not take the p*ss from Monday, in my opinion.
For future reference, we have a thing now which is called “Click Bait”… It’s used by the media to grab attention and attract people to “Click” on a particular News Article. It came up as a news flash on my computer, not sure of the source, so just reporting what I have seen this morning,.
It's probably a greater number in reality than you suggest, as only 1/10 have the app....I will be uninstalling mine as soon as my si is done.I can see the numbers are inflated by false pings, but equally the numbers will be understated as not everyone who is in SI has been pinged.
It's also reasonable to assume every new case could/should SI 2 people, so if over 10 days there are 250000 new cases, then you should see 500000 in SI.
As Jaffa says above and I've previously said the benchmark isn't only Hospy impact and deaths, but the economy and SI numbers will impact. I think it's the meat processing sector that is at a 10% staff SI and it's causing problems.
Let's hope the sci bods who say we've hit the peak are right and Chris Scare us Whitless is wrong. Sadly I think he's right.
CHRIS WHITTY, RACIAL ABUSE OF MARCUS RASHFORDLockdown might not happen in 5 weeks.
This wouldn’t have got as many clicks.
it’s a bit like the Clubcall headlines on teletext back in the day.
“Sorry mum, I didn’t know Worthington just wanted a 2 bedroom flat, I thought we were signing Kevin Francis”Pretty much.

Ring the number, wait ten minutes, it's actually Worthington eyeing up a new flat in St Annes.
“Sorry mum, I didn’t know Worthington just wanted a 2 bedroom flat, I thought we were signing Kevin Francis”
Well looking at the figures it would suggest that we have cut the deaths down by over 75%. So I would say the vaccine is working pretty wellOh dear is the vaccine not working?
Good to hear. No need to panic just yet thenWell looking at the figures it would suggest that we have cut the deaths down by over 75%. So I would say the vaccine is working pretty well
Unfortunately not… You’ll have to wait at least a further 5 weeks to panic again, allegedly!Good to hear. No need to panic just yet then
This is the correct response. Lala for PM.I think it’s a case of us all being as sensible and considerate as possible, including the deniers.Redirect Notice

Well roll on 16th August at least...Grimes Butchers in Cleveleys forced to close, as is the Travellers rest pub.
Even Wallings ice cream has had to close its doors.
Roll on Monday eh?
Would going to a busy Bloomfield Road be regarded as sensible?I think it’s a case of us all being as sensible and considerate as possible, including the deniers.Redirect Notice

If you're fully vaccinated or young fit and healthy, then yes... Otherwise, perhaps not....Would going to a busy Bloomfield Road be regarded as sensible?
