I really can't see the point of replacing the real marathon with a virtual race unless it comes at no cost.

I was meant to be doing the Ghent marathon in March. I don't know when the next real race is, so I am currently doing the virtual challenge of Lands End to John O' Groats (currently in Sheffield). There are plenty of other similar long distance virtual events to keep your training interesting. You still get a medal and they email you postcards along the route!

It costs £20 to run the virtual one and you can still defer your place to 2021 2022 or 2023. If you have done your training it seems a shame to waste it. I am doing a half marathon from Preston docks to Fairhaven lake and then just finishing it off by running near the lake.

I did the London Marathon last year and I couldn’t imagine running that distance ever again.

Fantastic day tho with the crowds pretty much all the way around. Not sure doing it virtually on my own would have the same appeal but I guess if you have trained for it you might as well give it a go and get a medal.

I suffered in the heat at the VLM2018, it was the hottest on record and sent me a little doolally at the 22 mile point. All winter training so didn't know what hit me. I ran the Blackpool marathon last year in much kinder conditions, although the looped format isn't exactly ideal for morale. Good luck to anyone doing this, my next race is supposed to be the Coniston 14 in November.

I was chatting to a guy before the start last year who did 2018 as well. Said people around him were walking before the 2 mile marker as it was that warm.

I do fancy training for another marathon but can imagine that anything after London would be a massive anti-climax.

I ran in this heat from Thornton (bay horse) to Starr Gate then back to Gynn square to get a half marathon in then walked 5 miles back home
