London the new Covid hotspot

Just watched Khan on Sky News. Issues that our hospitality sector here in the North West have had to suffer for months, are now being highlighted by him as not being acceptable.
What are the odds the sector down there gets a nice little handout?

I just seen him on the Beeb GJ.

I'll be honest and won't pretend to be a fan and he won't be the first Covid hypocrite but he was explaining the devastation that London in tier 3 will have on the hospitality industry and thirty seconds later he was advising everybody not to hug their loved ones at Xmas and explaining that it was not mandatory to see them etc, etc.

You couldn't make it up.

Labour have been absolutely pathetic throughout this pandemic so no surprises that Khan is doing the Government says Black we say White shuffle.

They’ve consistently sought to gain Political capital from the pandemic.👎

I couldn't agree more although I guess some might suggest that it's their job to do so.

The rumour is that Manchester will move to tier 2. Not sure how many places currently in tier 2 will be moving to tier 3 mind.
Hope so - that’ll really wind SK up a treat.
They don’t like it up ‘em in that there do they?

What's got my goat this morning is them talking about London's hospitality sector like it's some form of sacred cow

It's not like it's needed at the moment for tourists !

And the argument for protecting London's hospitality industry is advanced as if town's and cities up and down the country don't have the same concerns over the impact on the sector

It's quite insulting

Tier 3 won't last long here. Numbers will plummet next week, as we have all had our Secret Instructions to fan out and take our germs into the wider country during the Christmas ceasefire. 😎

I shouldn’t worry... Matt Hancock has been an absolute inspiration throughout this pandemic and he’s all over his brief.

You can bet your life that if London are being placed in Tier 3, that the timing of it is absolutely spot on.

Khan can waffle on all he likes... He’s a complete clown.

I think you will find that it is the London-centric media emphasizing this point (plus that sneasel* of a mayor) rather than anyone else.

* A cross between a snake and a weasel, a sub-species of politician.

Couldn't agree more TAM.

Unlike many on here, I'm certainly not one to harp on and on about any North/South divide but this was perfectly illustrated on the BBC morning program earlier on today.

The presenters said that they were getting lots of calls from people in other - non London - areas explaining that they have already been under the restrictions that those in London are now going to have imposed on them.

They went on to explain that they were fully aware of the fact that other areas were already under tier 3 restrictions and that there was no special treatment of London etc, etc.

I must have missed their program the other week when they dedicated their whole show to the devastating effects that tier 3 restrictions will have on the hospitality industry in the other areas ?

My main gripe is they can split Essex into tier 2/3 so why haven’t they done that with Lancashire which LCC even requested before the first allocation of tiers.

Your right TAM, they won’t.

I don’t think it’s being a pessimist I think it’s more being realistic.

Don’t care what anyone says the government definitely prioritise the south more than the north.

My main gripe is they can split Essex into tier 2/3 so why haven’t they done that with Lancashire which LCC even requested before the first allocation of tiers.

At the time the first decision was made only Wyre and Lancaster were under 200 cases per 100k, too small to justify a split.

If you look at Essex, most of it is in T3, it's only a couple of areas that border Suffolk/Cambridgeshire that've escaped because of low rates and the fact that they have borders with low rates areas.
