Pool have been to Wembley five times : Yeovil, Cardiff, West Ham, Exeter and Lincoln. Four wins and somehow losing to West Ham in a game they dominated. They all had one thing in common: they FELT like Pool were a team that could be promoted. Today’s crew do not ! Had they won yesterday, they would have been 6th, but they never remotely looked like it. They will not finish in the top six. It may be the system that they are asked to play, it may be injuries to crucial players, it may be that individually they just aren’t good enough, but there is no expectation of success at kick off, where there was with those earlier teams. Pool’s “away team” turned up again yesterday. If they concede the first goal, they can’t win( Peterborough the exception, with the help of a penalty). They just don’t feel like promotion candidates.
