M55 crash

Not surprised, loads of drivers think the bend is a challenge to see if they’re F1 material.
On the M60 there is a stretch of motorway where it’s average speed cameras set to 50mph installed following one fatal accident. I really don’t know why the section where the M55 meets the M6 isn’t similarly controlled as it’s forever having accidents like this which gnarl the whole junction up for hours on end.

Yet they are quite happy to catch motorists with their mobile cameras set up on the bridge where people are accelerating on a safe straight stretch of road beyond the bend of course.

That bit at Bredbury is stupid. I bet it catches a lot of motorists out who don't know the road.

The other side is even dafter as you get slow traffic emerging into the fourth lane of the M60 with cars going 80plus in the third lane and you’ve got to try and get into the left lane safely! No reduction in the speed to 50mph on that side! Mad.

Yep, that side is much more dangerous with cars joining in the outside lane on a bend.

And as for these death trap smart motorways like the one that's being introduced on that 11mile stretch past Wigan. It looks no different now than the day they started doing it over two years ago. Why did they get rid of a perfectly good motorway where they had a safe hard shoulder and the traffic usually flowed nicely at 70mph and introduce that utter monstrosity

Speed kills, average speed cameras slow people down.
Speed cameras are a cash cow, mobile speed cameras are just taking the piss.
You're right Ginge, average speed cameras are fair, I know that when I travel down the A583 to Knobend I put my cruise control on 50mph because they will capture you if you do over 50.

Agree about the Bredbury one north bound being a potential accident spot but I don’t use that very often whereas I have travelled the M55,M61,M60,A34 for the best part of 45 years coming to and then going back home watching us.
I can tell you that whilst that M55 M61 homeward bound link is certainly dangerous especially recently with that prolonged junction building stretch on the M55 of 50 mph ending just before it so everyone suddenly put their foot down the junctions that are really scary ( for me at least) are where the M61 meets the Bolton spur( A666( M) ) when you have to cross over to get into the 3rd or 4th lane to then join the South West bound traffic from the M60 heading towards Worsley. You effectively enter on a blind bend with fast moving traffic and in my case you need to get over to the 3rd or 4th Lanes asap to avoid getting trapped on the inside lanes before the M60 M62 junction. It has got better since they introduced the ( restricted) speed speed camera layout but I still am very wary about it.
I guess in your case you use the M6 route to get back home if you still live in Bollington or Macc but if I go M6 M56 and then the Airport Link Bypass ( which is great ) it adds a further 12 miles and besides which the M56 road works are hardly safe either.

No, I do the same route as you though sometime use Princess Parkway/M56/Airport Link - once Poynton bypass opens think I'll use that as preferred route rather than the A34.
