Madine destroyed us - he has the attributes that Gyokeres lacks and the other way round. Strength with his back to goal and Ariel power and dominance. No whining on shirt pulling just batter the centre halves. He and the number 9 took us apart
Always liked him. He will give it to the referees too. Something our players are too scared of.

Fully deserved today, we should have been miles ahead by half time.

To be behind was typical Blackpool, was thinking please no after all those chances.

Madine did well and should really have scored more but thankfully it didn't matter and he scored a great goal. Good all round play too, strong and solid.

Jerry too, 2 more headed goals today from the strikers, 2 against nobbers.

This is what gets me when we talk about certain other players. You’ve got Big Gaz playing every game, being held together by sellotape and pain killers…. Going to war for the cause every week.

Then we’ve got players hamming it up for weeks / months on end before slipping off to have their toenails surgically tinted 🫤

Very similar comments on BBC CWR after the match by both Steve Ogrizovic and a Cov fan ringing in.
Kudos must be due to Appleton & the coaches - Wor Gaz was often isolated & ineffective, now that he's got teammates playing closer to him he looks like an essential part of the team.

I think he's a hugely underrated player by some fans, but not by managers or opponents. As well as big, strong battering ram, he has some wonderful link up and clever little passes in him. Its a team game, and he allows us as a group to play attacking football in the right part of the pitch. Even though he isn't going to score 20 odd, the team will usually score more and concede less with him in the side. Today was a masterclass IMO.

Kevin Stewart prime example.

He's been in good form for about a month now, last time that he was totally ineffective was against Hull. Nobody played well that night but is Saturday, midweek, Saturday too much for him?
Could we change it around against West Brom and maybe bring him on if needed and then have him in better shape on Saturday.
I think he benefitted today from not playing midweek.

Gaz is way underrated. We a much better team with him in it and it makes me smile when I see his name on the team sheet. He's a typical Blackpool player who will be lauded for years after he has gone. He has a few more seasons in him yet too.

We have Lavery back so at least have options. I also worry about his body falling apart…

Turning a thread in praise of the immense Big Gaz into a snide go at Kev Stewart is poor IMO. He strikes me as the kind of person who would like nothing more than to be playing. Some players are just bedevilled by injuries. That is all.
Totally agree Mark - Kevin Stewart not out intentionally.

We will have a better idea about that if he starts on Tuesday. If he is poor again and looks like he can barely run then two full games a week is probably too much for him. Hopefully not the case.

Hard and fair, a player's player - never nasty & always helps his opponent up.
Plays the ref like an old violin too.

I think he'll start putting away more of his chances as his confidence grows in front of goal. Appleton's now setting up the forwards to make the most of their potential.

In the build up to his goal he showed great awareness and anticipated the back pass to the keeper
Which he intercepted, passed to Hamilton then got into the middle for the cross
Madine has always had the skill
Now he's fit and hungry for the ball
All credit to the manager, coaches and of course big Gaz

Coventry were a tiny side and is the reason he was effective yesterday .He will be back to normal and ineffective along with missing more chances next week

If there’s one thing I’d never call Big Gaz, it’s ineffective. He’s like a one man battering ram…

Last week Madine said "I'm getting too old for this" Against Coventry yesterday he chased a lost cause down like a hungry 21 year old, laid the ball off and got on the end of the incoming cross to score. Since he arrived he has got better and better.

Decent read.

that's a good read and gaz's insight is articulate and informative.

on the pitch, he looks as fit as he's ever been and if he plays well we generally get a result. opposition defenders must hate playing against him at the best of times but when he's fit and firing he's their worst nightmare. long live gary goals.
