Managed reduction in expectations

I’ve pondered this theory since the infamous Sadler statement post appointment of Appleton. There is a good reason that he was the ideal candidate at the time, he’s uninspiring and measured.

Perhaps Sadler realised the promotion came a little too early and he needs some time for the infrastructure to catch up. We know the Brentford model is the aspiration and we’re a couple of years away from having a ready developed influx of good young players available to sell for a profit. As we are also with the training ground etc

Sadler knows he needs to knock the fan base down a peg or two whilst keeping us all on side. It’s a difficult combination but the language that has come out from Appleton suggests this is the aim.

We all know it’s a difficult league, we know we can’t compete with most bigger teams but being consistently told this feeds into the players I’m sure.

Appleton won’t go, he’ll get backed in January but this will be tempered by a few going out the door for a profit. Unless we are cast adrift come February Appleton will hope things start to gel and pick up enough points to get us over the line.

Critch was an anomaly and we’ll have to all just get used to this level of performance for this time being. I’m sure it’s fully supported at board level.
