Manager for League One

At the ripe age of 64 you think MM will change his philosophy and start playing free flowing football? Can’t teach an old dog new tricks my friend he’s stuck in his ways.

Daryll Clarke is my first choice. Got Port Vale promoted to L1 and comfortably staying up this season and that’s with a tiny budget.

Not a dinosaur, plays good possession based football and would hope will be edger to step up and coach at a bigger club.
Daryll Clarke is a good shout. Also sounds like he really enjoys working at a club that has a goal of trying to get promoted.

Out of the names banded about so far Leam Richardson is an obvious choice, currently out of work so is available now and without compensation.
I would also be pleased with Richie Wellens that would be a show of intent from the club would cost the club money and not sure he would want to come to us from Orient? They will be in the same league as us next season and on an upward trajectory!
Thinking outside the box what about Stephen Bradley at Shamrock Rovers? A young manager, on his first gig at Rovers in the league of Ireland and managing one of the bigger fish in that league but has been incredibly successful.
Or David Martindale at Livingston, also on his first gig at the SPL’s smallest club in terms of support and budget, has got them punching above their weight against much bigger fish.
Stephen Bradley is an interesting one and has been manager at Shamrock Rovers for 7 years. If Andy Lyons is a guide to the quality of his coaching then we could do a lot worse. Also, he will have excellent knowledge of the the League of Ireland and players who could make the step up to Lg 1.

Unfortunately his son has leukaemia. I'm not sure if he would want to uproot his family. Sounds like they're going through a bit of a hard time.

What a shame the question 8 months ago wasn't 'Manager for the Championship'
This is why I want someone to ask who will be responsible for the next managerial appointment in the hope that it won't be the same people that chose Appleton. How on earth they came to that decision I'll never know.

Just spotted an interview with Michael Duff on the BBC website from last week. Talks about working with a core of players between 21 and 24. How he has tried to make the club more open to fans and helped improve their PR.
And said pre the Derby game “they will do what they do and bring the numbers they do”. Doesn’t talk his own club down, doesn’t say we can’t compete, unlike Appleton. Then his team go and beat Derby 4-1. What a shame he didn’t end up here.

Some points for the board and fans to bear in mind with the next appointment. Can the board look beyond the ex Blackpool player or manager or known well in the North West type of manager. They have done that only once in their first 4 appointments (Critchley) and that’s the only one that has worked. To be fair, maybe they were doing that with Rosenior but if a potential manager starts to stall for time, you have to move on quickly.

And can the fans stop going on about appointing people who “understand the club”. If the new manager is intelligent, he will work the club out soon enough. Or like Duff talk to the fans and find out himself.

Duff and Rosenior, if you believe the rumours, were the 2 we interviewed before opting for Appleton. If I were Sadler I'd hand over the responsibility of finding a new manager to someone else, other than him and Mansford. In the past we had someone like Jimmy to help, it's a real shame we don't have someone similar now.

It's OK naming all these possible managers.
However, how many will actually want to come to a club in our current circumstances?
All those mentioned will think twice if our financial situation is not good, and we don't have a big budget..
Their first Q. will be 'How much have got to spend on new players?'

They wanted to come last summer before we opted for Skeletor! Now we're back trying to tempt L2 and below managers or coaches who've zero experience of management. 🫣

I can't see Evatt leaving Bolton for us but I'd try temping him to the gold coast. His track record with Barrow and now Bolton is impressive and he knows all about Squires Gate and the Blackpool way of doing things.
Duff would be on my list also but again, why would he want to leave a good job he's part way through with Barnsley.
We need to roll out the red carpet better than we have this season when trying to sign players.

I'd love Evo back.
But would he come? No.
Bolton are just as big a club as Pool are and he possibly wouldn't want to start from scratch again just now.

Just read an article on the Athletic about Wellens. Can't see him leaving Orient any time soon. He signed a new contract recently and seems to be in it for the long term.

Is there any suggestion MM will stay on? Maybe feel disappointed he couldn’t get the job done but not his team and also limited with injuries! Managers don’t seem to want to retire these days, and who would on the back of a relegation?

Would we be happy if he did? He’s definitely be a decent L1 manager for me, so long as it wasn’t long ball shite week in week out!

Shame we all think we’re doomed with so many games remaining!
He is old school and would want control over signings

In the same way Dobbie has excellent knowledge of Scottish players and, already on the payroll

From reading the minutes of the fans meeting it doesn't seem like the club are interested in keeping MM after this season and will be after a young manager who will sign players for us to develop and sell on. Back to the Critch model it seems. Sounds like Chris Badlan is already looking at who we could get in.
