Mansford masterstroke

Bolton winning 5-0 for the second consecutive game and moving up to third. Just a reminder that instead of appointing him after his promotion with Barrow, we instead opted for Simon Grayson.
Club didn’t even speak to Evatt he was completely over looked for Appleton.

Another Mansford wonder stroke. 🙄

Appointing two former managers to me demonstrates a complete lack of real effort in finding the right person. No-one will ever be able to persuade me that Appleton was the best person out there for the job when we appointed him. Not a chance. It was a dreadfully lazy appointment.

I think I'm right in saying that Critchley was 5th choice.
Looking back- who were the first 4?
I remember Paul Heckingbottom always being in the frame.
Karl Robinson was about too.
Don’t think we spoke to Evatt, so I don’t remember who else we were linked with, Richie Wellens maybe.

Nathan Jones was 1st choice apparently. Rejected us due to compensation issues with Stoke, I believe.

Very intelligent reply, I was only asking a straight forward question as having two threads titled the same and on the same subject just clutters things up. Wouldn't it be better just to merge the two threads?

Did Mansford ignore an interview with Evatt leaving the path clear for his mate Appleton?

If that is the case, then Mansford has done what's best for his mate and not whats best for BFC. Simon Sadler pays Mansford 5k a week to do what's best for BFC and not what is best for Mansford's mates.

Agree, far too many threads on here, multiple start ups.

We’re not all OCD on here about having everything so neat and tidy like your lot.

I doubt we'll ever know the answer to that Gaz.
IF it is the case then surely SS questions BM's judgement & loyalty to BFC?
One thing's for sure, the board as a collective, has let us down badly in so many ways this season, & none more so than on the pitch.
IF we don't survive this season, even their biggest supporters on here must question the boards judgement & demand change.

No. Evatt had no interest in the job when Appleton was appointed. He was interested when Critchley was appointed but apparently was not given an interview. According to what was said at the time.

Bolton fans would have been happy to see the back of Evatt if we had approached him before Critch.
He wasn't tearing up League 1 at that time and it looked like the Bolton job was a step too far at that time...so why would he have got an interview?
And Bolton would have wanted a decent package (more than they paid Barrow) to release him

It's taken Evett 18 months (and a fair amount of investment money) to get Bolton playing well.
But I wonder how long AVFTT'ers would have given him
Before they tore into him, if we weren't pushing for the prem within 3 games?

And be honest......Why the fuck would he come back here?

He wouldn’t have left Bolton I don’t think .

Maybe when Critch was appointed he was v interested but not last summer

Can’t blame Ben Mansford for this

Critch turned out to be a good appointment and IE wasn’t an option after he left

Evatt has improved the league position of the team he has managed every season he has been a manager. He promoted Barrow who had the lowest budget in the Conference apparently. The Bolton fans were being pathetic, like wot our fans are at times. Fickle as fuck. One of my best mates is a Bolton fan and he said the people moaning were just the usual dicks. He thinks Evatt is fantastic.

I think Evett would be a great signing for us....BUT...we would need to give him 2 seasons to get the team playing.
But other teams will be looking at him if he gets Bolton into the Championship

I remember speaking with a bloke and his little lad who were Bolton fans and said they were lucky to get Evett
The little lad called Evett every name under the sun and said he was crap........stupid little d##k....I bet he's not saying that now!!!

Yes, he hasn't got a good record of staying with teams he gets promoted. As for little kids it matters nought. It's what they say when they grow up where they should be held to account.

I think it's too late now tbh - he won't leave Bolton for us. He could be a division above us next season. Maybe in the future if and when things go wrong for him there. The circle of life.

Appleton was indeed fifth choice. The short list was:

1. Johan cruyff
2. Ernst Heppel
3. Bob Paisley
4. Brian Clough
5. Michael Appleton

Don’t quite know why but somehow Appleton got the job. For whatever reason maybe the others weren’t available.
