Marvin

There has been a lot of talk about him needing an experienced head next to him. At 27 should a professional footballer need his hand holding?
He shouldn’t but clearly does. I’m not sure it’s a case of him not being good enough without that experience but more he’s suited to playing alongside experience. The experienced player can lead the defence, do the shouting and organising. Marv can then just be himself and play a simple game, dominating forwards physically and mopping up at the back

Normally I'd say no he shouldn't need his hand holding so to speak, but Marv's case is a little different because he didn't play any league football until he was 24

He played for Leyton Orient, who came back up to L2 in 2019.

So arguably he hasn't had the experience of most players who generally start earlier

Husband is playing well at the back currently , so himself & Marv could be a decent partnership , but ideally would like a taller experienced, vocal CB .

He did pretty well the season before Keogh, I think like every other footballer, it's about confidence. And having an endless procession of CB partners, most of whom aren't CBs.

I don't think its that he needs his hand holding and is more that he needs a ball playing cb next to him. Marv has good speed to recover, great in the tackle and decent in the air but is absolute horse sh1t with the ball. Even against Sheff u where he played quite well he still made some awful mistakes with the ball. Keogh and before him Ballard took that side of his game away from him and that's what we miss then he doesn't need to try and do something he can't do.

I think that nails it. Maybe with Jimmy there, who can play the ball, he might return to his best. When Lyons can finally play I feel Callum will have a big part to play in front of the back four.

I agree, but will add he's had no proper RB alongside him, so he covers a little in that respect.

Tony Book signed his first professional contract with Plymouth at the age of 30. Two years later he signed for Man City and was made Captain, he led them to the league title. You either have it or you don’t, some people are leaders some like to be led. This isn’t a reflection on Ekpiteta, just a fact.
