Matty Virtue

Think he could be useful for us this season. Looks like he's physically "filled out" a lot these days and showed good energy when he came on last night.

Part of me thinks he'd be one of them players that would stand out in another League One team and we'll be missing a trick if we decide to bin him off.

I'd certainly be putting him ahead of the likes of Dougall in the pecking order.

Virtues problem isn't so much technically it's more that he gasses like an Olympic bodybuilder doing cardio and has the pace of a snail

Matty is a decent player, as is Morgan, Carey and Weir. I think the question is are they good enough for a top 6 spot. I have serious reservation about all our midfielders with the exception of Norburn.

I like Virtue tbh. He doesn't seem to be filed as 'possible starter' though. He has a bit more intent than some others.

I don't really have problem with the majority of the squad individually. I just don't think we've got the right blend.
Or perhaps the right person to blend them?

There is that..

I still don't think we've got the blend full stop regardless.

Critch is annoying me tbh, but I also see he's lacking some stuff.
There isn’t a manager in football who doesn’t feel they are lacking some stuff, but sometimes you have to make the most of what you have!
I wouldn’t sack Critch (yet) but I wouldn’t have appointed him either, does anyone really think he is making the most of the resources available to him?

Neither would I. It's the last thing I'd have done reappointing him. But he's also not thick and possibly, he's just taking an idea to its end point and he's got another plan to unleash (desperate I know!)

He irritated me last time too - but I also came to admire his stubborn streak - for every thing he tried for two games too long, there was something that came off after everyone said 'stop doing that!'

I can make up 'better' teams than the 532 one, but they're not 'good' teams and I think that's in his head too. The 532 team should make best use of our squad (bar wing backs - unles he'd play Thommo/Lyons tbh) but in practice it doesn't look like it.

We'll see. We definitely can't carry on not scoring for another 5 or 6 games and talking about 'good possession' and 'decisions'

It troubles me that even when we're 5-0 down away in a cup tie, he still plays the same shape with random players up front.

Virtue is a plodder, always has been. Been here years now and never established himself as a regular, should have been moved on, for his sake as much as anything, but no, we stick with the same players and then expect different results. Mid table plodder at very best, uninspiring and stagnant, like the club as a whole at the minute

But, if selected, or introduced during the same game (i.e. vs Wigan Athletic), could they not 'peck' pretty much at the same time ...?

My mate is a Lincoln season ticket holder. He said Virtue was great for them last season, and he had hoped they might be able to buy him.

Good set up from Virtue for the goal and some great passion showed.

Hard not to when you score in front of the north and it's going absolutely bananas.
