Maxwell influence

Maxwell is clearly a better option at the moment. Our defensive frailties have been very evident and it’s no coincidence that his presence has improved matters. It’s not always best to have skill as your top objective.

After the Rotherham and Millwall games it was evident that we needed a leader on the pitch and someone who could stabalise a very shaky back four who were exposing Grimmy. Eki is not a leader and shouldn’t be captain either as he’s got his own on field problems to sort out, but the return of Maxi has evidently changed things and Bridcutt has brought even more confidence into the team.

Every credit to MA for making the change.👍

I think it's interesting that eki was still captain yesterday even though maxi was on the pitch...

Does that mean ek is our club captain now?

For me he doesn't do enough talking/have enough presence on the pitch to be captain 🤷
Not next week he isn't 😔

Sheff Utd commentary on their 3rd goal.....

Doyle with the corner left, down the keepers throat who looks like might have been fouled there, Norwood oh Norwood scores.

IMO Maxwell had a brilliant game, not only having to make great saves but to put up with the thuggery of any Sheffield Utd player in the box.

Talking to his defence, encouraging, bollocking and putting his arm around when necessary... his on field presence has for me made a huge difference ( nothing against Grimshaw) .
Did that save in the last seconds at Sunderland turn our fortunes?
That’s a good observation. Looks like he‘s back in the team for more than just his footballing ability.
That is a good spot and good call from MA if that’s the case.

Saw a comment about Maxwell being poor for their first two goals - not sure how he was to blame, not to mention the stunning saves he pulled off in the game. Pretty sure he had their pen covered too if it hadn't hit the post. Thought he was very good overall, and his distribution was too.

I got slated a few weeks ago when I said drop Grimmy and put in Maxi because he organises the defence and is more vocal but that both keepers don't come out to collect the high ball from corners 😟

Maxwell becomes even more essential this midweek with an even younger defence likely in front of him without Marvin. He's got his work cut out to organise Williams 🤣

Tbf, Williams played well in a 4 vs QPR and a few other games and looked most lost in a back 5 which I wonder if he's ever played in at all cos Liverpool is 433 or bust in every age group.
