MCLF Match blog - Morecambe vs Blackpool

Yay I was hoping for a write up.

"When's Madine fit again?" 😆

Stuart Moore = 2 years (pedant alert)

"Thommo out of nowhere hits one of the best crossfield passes in the history of football." Cool.

Is Moore a possible first team starter?

Moore is longer than 2 years because he played the last game before the play offs and was our sub keeper at Wembley in 20/21 so nah nah nah. We had him, Fotofit and Maxwell.

Moore won't start no. We've got two really good right backs plus also Connolly and CJ. He's a player I'd love to see to get a start in the cup games and to have a chance should the need arise but I'm not sure I'd pin my hopes on any of the youngsters as 'the best 11' yet.

26 Feb 2021 to 27 June 2023. 2 years 4 months. I win nah nah.

But if he can ping crosses like Kieran Trippier.....

Lyons on the left like wot he woz at Shamrock doodah.

"What did we learn"?
For me;
I'm less certain about Albie Morgan although he did have the assist for goal.
Donnelly is painfully slow in his distribution. If he's Critch's 1st choice keeper as some suggest we're in trouble.
I'd let Virtue go to Wrexham and lump on Moxon.
..and a few other things that have probably been covered elsewhere.

I agree on all those points. I also apologise for borrowing the "what did we learn" concept 😂

Saw Jack Moore play for youth team a couple of times. Was standout player in that decent team. Wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up being 1st choice RB by end of season, and could push Gabriel up to right wing back.

I’m hoping Albie Morgan had a but of an off night last night but he still looks a very decent player but has he done enough pre season to get the nod for a starting eleven place? Jack Moore has never let us down when playing for the first team albeit always in pre season friendlies going back to last pre season too, may not be quite ready given the strength we have at RB, RWB but definitely one for the future.

I hope he gets at least games in the tinpot cup and early league cup rounds though I'm not sure we'll see much, if any of him in the league.

I think Apter is probably closest to being around the first team squad/in the mix and Moore is a little bit unlucky in the sense that 2 of our best players are in his position and we've got additional experienced cover as well.

Well we've only got one fit RWB and he can play on the left. 🤔

Nobody seems to have praised Luke Mariette for his performance last night which is strange as he was outstanding when he came on. Jack Moore was good too but Mariette was excellent.

I thought he was very tidy and said so in the blog. As I said on the match thread, Moore really caught my eye though. I liked Mariette's ability to take the ball in a tight spot, control it and find a pass. He also looked much bigger than he did.

We've also got CJ who is never going to play anywhere else in a 532 (I hope!!!) and Connolly who isn't a wing back but you can totally see Critch playing at RWB in an away game and everyone raging about it.

I dont want to see Critch anywhere near the first XI. 😆 Not even if I'm on the grass.

Connolly isnt a RWB. He's back 4 / back 3.

CJ yes but Moore may well defend better and has a better delivery too. Im still on the first half of last night's game though.... 😀

I complimented Luke on the match thread.
When Luke is on his game he's good. What he lacks perhaps is a little bit of consistency. I think his cameo last night helps prove a point I've been making for a long time, introduce one or two of our best youngsters into the 1st team and you'll see a significant step up in their performance levels playing alongside better players.
Jack Moore throughout his u18 career was the set piece specialist. Whilst size might have been seen as a problem for a modern FB he could be, as @td53 says, our Kieran Trippier. I do think Jack has bulked up a bit this simmer and I do know he has many admirers within the Club.
Finally poor old Brad. I still think he's a better option than Jake Beesley. I hope he's OK. Must have been tough for his Dad watching in the stand seeing him lying there prone for so long. I think if it had been my son I'd have been on the pitch.
Not used this for a while but

I know Connolly isn't a RWB but you can utterly see us playing Derby away or something with Connolly out there. Like when he played Virtue on the right wing cos he loves solidity.

I'm not picking the team here, I'm just channeling Critch...

Also, Critch was a full back wasn't he? So he could make a Neil Bailey-esque cameo if required 👍

What team plays a right back and a right wing back at the same time?? You nutter!
