MCLF Match Blog - the Mighty vs Bolton Wanderers

Summed the occasion up perfectly.
Great win and the weekend seems so much better. Grabbing a garlic bread in the way home from M&S at knutsford services lol

For f’s sake you put a tear in my eye with the last couple of paragraphs. Thank you for that write up.

I think the state of things this season is really weird. There is all this negativity and yet we are still top of the home league table with 37 points from 18 games and a goal difference of +21. Peterborough are second best with +17 and then it's Bolton and Derby with +13.

Our away form is the mirror opposite of course and not good enough. 16 points from 16 games, -7. Lost 8 and won just 4. Some bad defeats to bottom half teams.

And all this is just data. There's more to life than stats. I've got fed up myself, and been frustrated with rigid tactics and player selections, all the stuff frustrating others.

We are though pretty much in the league position that matches our budget and attendances. The teams above us in the pyramid spend more and have bigger attendances, pretty much, other than Stevenage. Posh and Oxford similar to us I think.

So is all the angst and the criticism justified? To some extent I think yes, there is cause for frustration and a sense of alienation from the way the club and the team are managed now. But I think it often goes too far. Football generally has changed. It is much more corporate, and data driven. For all, or most, clubs.

We could choose to be different, of course. Operate in a more old school manner.

Meanwhile, we are 4 points off the play offs with a game in hand in 6th. And have just beaten two of the best teams in the league in some style. If we sneak into the play offs and win them, will people feel like they were wrong, and wasted a year's energy by moaning every day? Or will they think, "ok we got promoted, but I didn't enjoy it. It was shit! I just want to watch exciting football."

Great blog with some very funny insights into the Life of Neil.
Just one small factual point. I thought it was Kylie that danced passed a couple of players and threaded the ball through to Dembele for the 4th goal?
That goal is straight out of the FA Handbook as to why you don't leave anyone up for opposition corners but then we have got the country's 2nd highest qualified coach as our Manager, one behind Gareth Southgate. 🤣

When we had all 11 back against their 9 outfield players it did have me scratching my head a bit. We need a new vacuum cleaner. I'm definitely going to write in and ask for advice on which model😁

Yes it was Kyle.

That's the most I've enjoyed a game at Bloomfield road since Hamilton scored against Preston from the halfway line.

The sun was out, the flag was back and the ground was bouncing.

All those thoughts about not renewing next year seem like distant memories.

It's taken a while but we seem to have a good collection of chants now as well after losing Yates, dougall, bowler, patino and madine which was pretty much all our songs gone.

UTP

Absolutely brilliant Matt I have posted on the blog that I wish I could have written that because it echoed so many of my own thoughts before, during and after the game.

And it brought a tear to my eye too at the end

Thanks for making me laugh in the dark days and cry in the good

Bravo 👏

Just finished it and brilliant as usual, a brilliant, very particular and funny way with words.

1 thing though, it was Joseph with the run and pass to Dembele for the final goal.

Thanks for kind comments above. This was most enjoyable one to write for ages so I'm glad it worked for a few of you 👍
