MCLF: sort of a preview - the Curious Case of Rob Apter

It's kind of a preview. Although I don't actually mention the upcoming game, so I suppose it's not.
Depressingly "on the money".
You need a dose of Eardley/Dobbie football to cheer you up.
They should put them in joint charge of the team on Tuesday for the EFL Trophy game.

Best bit of the season was reading the tweet about Lennon Scholes' save in a pub in Lincoln ffs 😂

I couldn't agree more td53. Your article is right on the money, in my opinion. We seem to be locked in fear. A Sadler - Critchley axis of fear.

There's a hairy Scot in the background putting cones out and mumbling unitelligibly along the lines of "you useless bunch of over privileged lily livered Sassenachs. What are yous actually scared of?"

I'll be in the away end at Gigg Lane today I'm afraid. Up the Dids! Signed a free agent keeper yesterday as the only keeper broke his ankle last week. Tough game but we'll give it a go!

Great game to go to that! I think, irc, there's another Blackpool fan going who I was with at last game... (unless you are actually him which I don't think you are)

Is it too late for me to come along lol...

Nah, we're gonna batter Wigan. It'll be reet.

I don't think I'm him either. Feel free to join us!

Above all my biggest worry would be that anyone thinking about joining our development squad and those in it will see that there is no chance of progression at Blackpool.

Holmes Mariette and Moore might not make it as a pro and neither might Apter but both have not been given an opportunity in what has recently been a poor team. The apparent absence of money for signings has compounded this sin as Critchley, Appleton and McCarthy have refused to consider using these players as options.

If that is our position we might as well disband the Development Squad now.

Or he could get more chances than he would have here and show he can cut it at that level, improve and develop and be ready for us far more in Jan.

That's true but we probably need Apter now.

In my head it goes a bit like this:

NC - Mike, I'm thinking of putting Rob on the bench...
MG - Yeah? I'm not sure (insert name of senior pro who is a Crtchley player) will like that... You'll have to leave them out completely. For a kid.
NC - Good point. I don't want to upset the group.
MG - No boss.

That's possibly a grossly outrageous thing to make up but there we go. I did.

I can only assume we though we'd bring someone else in or his 'replacement' is Dembele, so that then allowed us to let him go out.
Why develop our players by loaning other players?

We pissed Carey about so much last year fitting loans in that he's actually forgotten what kind of a player he is. The irony is, he ended up playing more than any of them, just rarely doing to role he actually plays.

It's not just about 'I like Apter'

It's more the whole point that the 'vision' for the club is that we're sustainable and over time we blood young players and develop them.

Apter has been ignored at a point when we really could do with his attributes (both before and now Dembele is here) and then shipped out.

Why? Some generalised guff about 'Critchley sees these players etc etc' doesn't cut it for me. He does, aye, but in no way do any of them morph into the little imaginative free roaming box of tricks that Apter is.

He's not like anyone else - so therefore he's an asset. Variety matters. You can't have 11 Gary's or 11 Wes's - you need a blend.

They obviously don't think he's quite ready and will benefit more from.this loan move playing regularly.

It's not necessarily that we develop him and then won't play him, we may do after this loan move. There should be a progression to the 1st team.

It is disappointing that NC doesn't seem to give youth a chance as much as Dobbie though, especially given his background.

But ultimately they do see him on the training pitch and we as fans have mainly seem tiny amounts, some positive yes and for me I would have liked to see him more. But it is what it is.

People are generally unhappy because of the lack of results and the failure of the system and to use what we have currently.

I can only presume, being in the dark, that him going was done with us feeling we have suitable cover or that he wouldn't feature enough to benefit as much as the loan.

What's the alternative? That we needlessly shipped away a player we absolutely needed and had no-one else to take his place? That would be madness.

Shifting the blame! 😆

Eh? We don't need to ship anyone out. He's not counted in the squad numbers and I can't imagine he's anywhere near the highest earners, or even any other first team squad member in terms of wages.

Not really, Mike is just saying it as it is. It might piss off [insert name] but Critch should just say 'well, he'll just have to lump it and work harder' but he's thinking of group harmony because he's been listening to 'On the Grass' - an FA podcast by coaches, for coaches and they've just had an episode on it.

Apter will benefit no doubt however we miss out in the interim at least. The lad can play simple as that.

He also makes others play because they know he can.Best we have produced in a generation.

The Dids scored 2 late goals to get back to 3-3 but Bury won it with a goal deep into injury time. Great game and great food on Bury market. But I missed the Super Kenny moment.
