Memories of the Clarets

Late December 1971, lost! after the game the usual squaring up to each other across the main road outside the ground, when my mate shouted ‘Lets run ‘em‘ to which we did, scuffles then ensued, my mate his brother and me got lifted by the cops. Had to appear in court the following Monday, where the arresting cop said my mate was heard to have shouted ‘Let’s run em’ In the box we all testified he’d said ‘Let’s run past them’! and got off with it!! 🤣🤣🤣
I got caught near the Bob Lord stand and must have run a couple of miles. Still remember the pain!!

I never liked going to Turf Moor, particularly after I was nearly hit with a half brick thrown over a fence when leaving the ground!

🤣 We were all just young pups letting off steam! Happy days, sort of.😆
Which is why I love the youngsters we’ve got back in the club now. “The muckers”:home and away. I,ve converted my grandson. It,s the best since the 70,s . The 2010 Prem was for ol farts ,these kids are us re -incarnated, and creating a great fan base again.

I remember going here at the end of the 1991 season and I got seated in the same stand as Burnley and it started to get quite lively in the first half
with only a couple of policemen between the fans, with the Blackpool fans in the minority. Think both teams were going for promotion.

My other memory is going to a pre-season friendly where they played Ken Dodds's greatest hits for 20mins before kick-off into the Blackpool end.
Don't know if it was intentional as torture or if they only add one record.

Yeh, it’s a joy to listen to their enthusiasm, and me and my Mrs still join in all the chants! Love it. 👍

Went there with Spurs in 1975 ish. My first experience of mushy peas.
Spurs had half the Longside but loads went out the back and into the Burnley end. Bedlam all match. Think Spurs won 3.2.

Remember our little crew going to the Burnley v Chelsea FA Cup replay January 1970, couldn’t get in so clambered up some big gates to try and see the game, just managed to see Ralph Coates score a great opening goal for Burnley, but Chelsea went on to win 3-1. We were really only there to clock what the Chelsea fans were wearing tbh! Cool fuckers! 😆

Ground redevelopment underway at Turf Moor, so they only gave us 850 seats in the Cricketfield stand.

I managed to get a seat in the Bob Lord Stand and kept silent for around 70 minutes until Andy Preece scored what turned out to be the 1 0 winner. I jumped up to find myself surrounded by plenty of other Pool fans who'd also blagged a ticket.

Great day.
Re ground redevelopment went with my dad mid 70's. Whatever was there pre Bob Lord stand had been flattened. Strong Burnley side (think they got promoted that season) were 4-0 up. Most Pool fans on the Longside were leaving before a great comeback to make in 4-3. Burnley hanging on for the final whistle.

Jimmy Mullen; what a cock.

Was that the time someone set him alight in a chippy? We had a couple of songs, one about him being banned from driving and another to the tune of 'I'm on fire' by Bruce Springsteen

'Jimmy Mullen - whose going to drive you home tonight' by the Cars

I think the game you are referring to was 1994 New Years Day, we were crap, and had lost a few days earlier 5-0 at home to York. Went 1-0 up early on through Dave Lancaster, that's when I got covered in the anti hooligan grease.
David Robinson not Dave Lancaster but apart from that 👍

Anti Hooligan grease on the fence on the Longside .

1990/1 & 1991/2 away games there where we took more than we got at home the previous or next home games.

1-0 win there under Allardyce in 1996 where I was sure we were going up. We were only allowed about 750 in the Cricket Field that day due to ground redevelopments, but I know we had a few who travelled to Burnley mid-week to get tickets in the home end. Rather them than me!!
Was in the home end disguised as a turnip. Had a great view of Andy Preece nodding in the winner.

Jorgensen belting a screamer in the 3-0 win in the first season back in the championship in 2007. Beating them 5-2 and my heavyweight Soviet style watch flying off into the crowd. I often wonder who got that on the head
I remember the PA Man (Tony Parr?) saying before the home game in 2007 “these people have come from the hills, let’s give them a show”.

There were a number of their older fans in the West, you could tell because they fucked off by the hour when they were 3-0 down..,

Hey Jimmy Mullen is your wife at home
Or did you send her to the chippy on her own?
Oh, got a bad desire
Oh oh oh, she's on fire

Something like that, anyway

South paddock. Can see me on the highlights
The 5-2? My lovely mate Matt (sadly departed suddenly last year - RIP man), a mad Claret, saw me running and celebrating down the South Stand steps from the away end when the 5th went in.

I remember they had a keeper that had already retired and was in his 40s I think. Had a nightmare.

I loved that Blackpool team
