Mick McCarthy’s Blackpool squad is taking shape

Yes, whatever happens I'm happier with Big Mick in charge
I can’t wait to see Mick’s starting X1 at Southampton tomorrow, I haven’t a clue what team he will select and how he will use his substitutes. There is no doubt in my mind that the squad McCarthy now has at his disposal is stronger than the squad Appleton had at his disposal for most of the season. Appleton averaged a point a game over the season, McCarthy will have to do better than that if we are to stay up. I really hope this short term appointment works for BFC but Appleton for all of his shortcomings knew the strengths and weaknesses of this current squad and it was a very brave decision by the BFC Board to sack Appleton halfway through the Jan transfer window. I am 100% behind Mick McCarthy and pray he doesn’t lose his first two Championship games as no other Manager of a Championship club has ever lost 10 consecutive games in the Championship before.

He’s here to keep us up and he’ll be happy with 0-0 away and 1-0 at home, I don’t expect exciting, attacking football, his priority will be making sure the defence doesn’t concede goals. Unless he has an epiphany and goes all Man City, i think we’re in for battling, dull football, but that’s what’s needed until we’re safe. I can’t see how he’s going to fit in those flair players we have, like Bowler, Poveda, Morgan, C.J and Keshi when he’s fit.
Without the flair players we won’t be winning many games!

Would he really want to replace his top scorer in favour of Madine who isn’t going to get us that many goals?
Madine was injured on Saturday, I think Madine will be back in the starting line up as soon as he is fit because he is far better target man than Jerry Yates. Madine also helps out the defence at corners and free kicks and has the most Championship assists in the Pool squad. Jerry Yates has not scored in the Championship since October, three months ago, Yes he is the leading goalscorer but has only scored a goal in 6 Championship games so far this season, Madine has scored in 4 Championship games this season and played in fewer games than Yates. In the situation we are currently in we need to aim to score at least one goal in every remaining game to have even a chance of getting three points. McCarthy selects the starting X1, decides the tactics and formation and also the timing and use of the substitutes whatever McCarthy decides will have a major bearing on our success in the remaining 19 games this season.
