Mick's style

Assuming it is him of course. He will arrive with a huge and, more recently, fairly justifiable preconception of being just a long ball midfield bypasser.

Our first two games back last year were a harsh and quick lesson in how the Championship had changed since our last go. Coventry showed how to take your chances, from memory both Cardiff's goals came from us being unable to defend flick ons in the box to the back stick.

But that didn't mean Cardiff spent the whole game just aiming in the general area of the biggest player available - and they had plenty to choose from. Their midfield dominated, shut us down, they were quick.

Undoubtedly we'll sign a tall player soon, we need a CH for one thing, but we're not going to replace the squad. So I think it will be really interesting to see how Mick uses what's available - formation, selection. And more so on his second or third game once he's had a proper look at it all.

If it's just a Madine/Beesley pair with 2/3 ball winning midfield then yes it'll be a hard watch. But I do think there's more to him than that, football wasn't always played exclusively by 6ft+ era.

And there's direct football and hoofing it. Leicester were direct and fast when they won it, they were still a decent watch though. I think our general tempo will raise, and yes we'll play some aerial balls to the front, but we'll be working off them with a purpose.

Overall it'll be an interesting few months, quite looking forward to it actually. Keep an open mind folks, and roar them on.

He’s had a couple of years out of the game and hopefully used that time to see how the game has changed and what style successful teams play. Long ball hoof is long gone.

Hope that doesnt mean miss machine madine plays every week to play that way the tall man has to consistently win the ball and do something with it .Unless you are blind and watch every week this is something he does not do and thats a fact

Going right back to the start of Sadler taking over the club and under any of the subsequent managerial appointments hand on heart can we say we have played attractive football?

You have to play to your strengths based on the players you have available to you at any given time.

Critchley largely succeeded where others have failed by doing exactly that.

Be it McCarthy or anyone else that comes in playing in a system that the players believe in and above all utilises them to best effect surely has to be better.

Here and now we would all celebrate a side that comes off the pitch with 3pts more often and subsequently build some confidence.

That doesent mean creative players can't flourish but it does mean you can't play them all at the same time.

Put the wallpaper back in the box for now and focus on the bricks and mortar.
