Might as well have kept Appleton

Oh please, most fans were baying for Bad Apples blood before the season started and their wish came true but he should have gone after the Wigan game. People need to get their head around the fact that we are a squad of L1 players struggling to compete in the Championship!
And those league 1 players have massive let us down by getting sent off for stupid stuff!

The ground was dead with Appleton, take football style out of it. 70% of the crowd hated him, at least now the fans can play a part in trying to keep us up.

Not one player could have given more today, recruitment has been worse than shit.
I agree.

Thompson - can't get in squad now except in injury crisis like today.
Wright - total failure
Williams - at best, a few ok games and some awful ones
Fiorini - injured
Theo - bizarre player.
Patino - done ok but I still don't know what he actually is.
Ward - Manager didn't even want him. Played right back. Not a right back.
Rogers - looks ok, but possibly not fit to start yet.
Bowler - hardly a coup as he literally came to us by default
Bridcutt - broken. Known injuries
Goode - Broken - Had Kev Stewart-esque career record.
Nelson - jury out. time will tell (already injured once)
Trybull - injured. Looks ok, but like others, has injury record.
Lyons - actually, amazingly, seems quite good.

Have I missed anyone?

At best, we'll be saying Lyons, Rogers and Patino worked out (we already had Bowler ffs)
We can't afford a hit rate of 3/13 (excluding bowler)

If we go back a bit further to Jan last year, we can add

Dale - gone out on loan
Kirk - didn't make it. Now in Lg 1 Looked 'ok' in some games but no more
Beesley - injured - not done a whole lot aside from that Birmingham game.
Tharme - literally never played for us.

That's now 3 in 17 and I'm giving them Rogers when he hasn't done owt really yet and Patino when he's been mostly a chant and a goal against PNE but he's obviously good even if no one actually knows what kind of midfielder he really is.

That's not good.
It's hard, aye, but c'mon!

Hang on, I forgot Poveda.
He's touch and go whether you'd say he's a 'success' but I'll give them it just for the joy of him in a few games which is really, really pushing it.

4/18.

MA may have gone down a more attacking approach but it's a fact that we have the second worst defensive record in the league. That is down to the total lack of organisation of the team that MA put out. You don't need world beating players to organise a team defensively, but this season we've been consistently cut through with ease.

It may not be pretty, and it may not excite the fans, but if we're to start picking up the wins, it has to start with us being able to make it difficult for teams to score against us. Today was poor overall, however in my opinion our defending today was an absolute mile better than during any other game this season. Whenever they had it in a dangerous position, there was always someone there covering. I honestly don't think we'd have got the two points we have done in the last two games if Appleton was still the boss.

Before anyone says, I'm not saying it was good. I'm just saying that picking up wins starts from the back, and at least that part of our game showed signs of improvement today.

When you read that summary, it’s actually depressingly accurate.

Really? We’re working harder but lots of similarities with draws with Birmingham, Cardiff, Hull etc. Game of two halves with Sunderland but we were excellent 1st half.

Lying to say it’s not.
We had all our Flair players on the pitch at sometime except Povada . We didn't look like scoring with these players on the pitch , but throughout the game nor did they and that makes a nice change.

Why are you lying 😂

They hit the bar in the last minute. Maxwell made a great save just before and they hit the post from a free-kick.

We were lucky to get a point. It’s fine to admit it, but saying they never looked like scoring is stupid.

That's the game I watched. We were fortunate to get a point despite the players trying as hard as they can.

The football was dreadful again. Head tennis, hoofball.

Lump it long!!!!

We hardly ever win the first header or the follow up on.

Odd. We have fans saying the crowd should stay with MM and that fans shouldn't boo and get behind MM and the team.

Yet these are the same fans who wouldn't get behind Appleton.

Odd behaviour and worthy of clinical analysis.

It's an effect of it being more important to be right on the internet than it is that the team does well.

Can’t anybody see. MM is all we,ve got!! I at least see a manager on the touch line with his assistant who give a dam.
Not like the statue that was MA.
After going to Middlesboro , walking out on Tuesday ,I thought were better against Rotherham Not good but better.
So much so I,m risking going to Swansea. I predict a draw. Stoke will be a win and with a touch of luck Critchley will be sacked after we beat QPR, Happy days it can only get better.

Amazing how MM can’t be given a chance and no-one will accept that the damage was done before his arrival
Seems a lot of people are in denial and cannot accept the facts.
Ok, his tactics at the moment certainly haven’t filled us with confidence and if he doesn’t change anything then we will be in League 1 next season BUT, it will be with a new manager because MM’s position will be untenable
Thing is, the guy had the balls to take on the job knowing he was in a no win situation but we cannot blame him. It was the shite before his arrival that got us in this predicament

Nothing personal against Appleton, he was unpopular from the off and the lack of quality signings, injuries and sending offs made the job far more difficult.
He did get some good results with the squad we had prior to last 10 games or so.
However we have moved on and need to get behind Mccarthy till end of the season. Regardless of where we finish an overhaul will be required in the summer.

Still playing dreadful football

Still got a guy in charge who clearly thinks we’re shite and therefore we need to resort to long balls rather than utilise the talented players we have.

Miserable times
Some short memories. We played just as badly but also were liable to concede three or four.

2 more points then what Appleton would have got with the same team.

I don’t think it’s short memories.

I’m well aware of how bad things were under Appleton.

I do believe however, that it COULD have improved considering we’d just signed 3 players in key positions while he was manager.

We’ve now got a coach who clearly thinks every game needs to be a scrap and is completely nullifying the influence of our best players.

Appleton wouldn’t have done that, for all his faults.

I'm not sure we're working harder under MM - I think the attitude of all our players is first class and I don't think any of them weren't trying for MA. I think they'd put nothing less than 100% in for any manager tbh.
However, I think we saw signs on Saturday of us being much more difficult to break down. I know it was only Rotherham, but we have the second worst defensive record in the league, so keeping a clean sheet is an important step forward for us (if we're to take any positives from it). We achieved that not because we tried harder, just that we set up in a way that ensured there was always defensive cover when they broke forward. It was very noticeable, because that kind of defensive discipline has been almost totally absent this season until now.
