I’m currently lying in the Vic after an emergency hip replacement. Not pleasant.
So now I’m told I have to have seating at a certain height, will not be able to bend my hip too far etc.
So anyone had hip replacement? How did you get on going to the match? Are the seats high enough at Bloomfield Road?
Got to get my priorities right!

Never had a hip replacement but would consider you get your priorities right. Maybe enquire if you can bring hospital bed to the corporate lounge, might cost you a little extra. Take it easy.

Ah, now I know who you are off Twitter 👍

Tell you what, if you can't find out, ask the club if they can help out, I would hope our customer service can be flexible

Never had it and sorry to hear of your plight. The good news is rhat it’s a procedure with a very high success rate. Just make sure you do everything the doc and physical therapist tell you to do.

I agree with the point about following the advice of the docs and physiotherapist. It is the type of operation that will take a bit of time and effort to recover from.
I don't know where your seat is in the ground, but personally I wouldn't struggle through crowds or up and down stairs whilst your are recovering and may be unsteady on your feet. If you contact the club they may be able to accommodate you temporarily in a disabled seat / space or other place with more room.
When I was recovering from a long stint in hospital (not hips) I initially used a walking stick. People were more aware and tolerant if they could see from that that you needed a bit more time and space. You don't want to end up on the BFC treatment table!

My partner has had both hips successfully replaced, with a two year gap between hip operations.
The surgeon and physio both told her as soon as possible after the op start walking. She did this , gradually built up the distance until walking miles. Seemingly it beds the new joint in and obviously keeps the muscles strong. Also she swims regularly.
Good luck!

It is short term, not had hip replacement but a friend has. You could get a booster cushion, or maybe a whoopee cushion

Transfer to the North & lean against the back of the seat. 😃 Hope you recover quickly and find out exactly what you can & can’t do. Then speak to the club SLO.

I had one of mine done mid june a few years ago . It was about 10 weeks before I felt OK to go to the game , so missed the start of the season . You only need one person to bump into you , you may still need a crutch , and you could be in a worse position than before .
You're health before football I'm afraid.

How was it? I'm on a list to have one but due to being young am trying to stave it off for as long as possible.

Had my left hip done 2 years ago I was ok to sit normally after about 2weeks. If you're careful I think you should be ok .Keep moving and walking if you can . All the best.

Carry a booster seat with you and a tape measure. Min height of seat should be 18 inches or you might dislocate your hip. In fact, there are decent and important videos on YouTube telling you how you should move after the op.

I once got smuggled out of the RPH by my mates after a serious RTA to watch us get beat at Dumpdale.
Just grin and bare the pain and email the club about going through the sponsor's lounge to one of the balcony seats until you are in better condition.

Or do it through the @SLO_BFC .

Maybe contact the club, explain your situation and see if they can suggest a seat that night be best for your current needs. Whichever way hope you make a quick recovery and can get to as many matches as possible

By-pass the ticket office in your dealings with the club about this.

Be careful ,you really really do not want to dislocate your hip .
Maybe sit in front row seat so no climbing stairs, less jostling etc.

Never had it done but colleague from work had it done and dislocated after sitting in edge if the bath. She said worse than child birth and she's quite tough cookie.

BTW she's absolutely fine these days ,walking ,dancing etc.

Just to add, they sent me a raised chair and
raised toilet seat to use at home but I never did and was fine using normal chairs/seats . As long as you are careful and keep moving regularly you should be fine in a relatively short time !

I had my right hip done 7 years ago when I was 61. Very successful operation. I'm now waiting to see the consultant to have the other one done.
Like others have said, don't rush things and do as you're told by the physio. I was lucky as my gym at the time was part of a physiotherapy practise run by the ex england cricket physio and I carried out exercises to strengthen the muscles around the joint which really speeds up recovery.
As far as getting to matches I didn't have to worry as along with thousands of others I was boycotting.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.

The seats at the bottom are higher? When I broke my leg badly the club were really accommodating on accessibility but you would be best making arrangements in advance.

Hope you're on the mend soon TT.

If you ask them nicely they might offer you one of those tangerine cushioned seats in M Block with the 53 Clubbers......😉

I had mine done about 6 years ago. The biggest danger is dislocating the joint before the ligaments, tendons, muscles are reattached and strong. A minimum of 6 weeks but phone your surgeon or his side kick for better advice. Sitting wouldnt be a problem but getting knocked or falling over could be. I flew abroad after 6 weeks.
They want you up about and on your feet quickly but watch that dislocation.

I did a trip to Norwich for the last game. Five days on a boat and the game. One of our party had his hip done two and a half weeks before. Admittedly he was well anaesthetised for most of the five days but he did very well.

Good luck.

Ah well they’ve just told me not to even travel in a car for six weeks, so that’s that.
You can do it, but better to be a passenger and get some proper high density foam to raise you up to sit much higher. Keep measuring that 18 inches and do not twist. Assume you‘ve got runners to stop turning in your sleep?

No. And having walked around on a broken hip for over two months, I am not risking anything. It’s a full replacement, so I’m doing whatever the doctors say.

I flew out to Aruba 6 weeks after my full replacement. I took it easy and went swimming everyday. No problems at all.
Do all the walking they suggest and just listen to your body. Just be careful with twisting it and youll be up and about and watching the pool quicker than you think.

TT I had a unicompartmental knee replacement two and a half weeks ago. I was promised pain by my consultant and all I can say is he is a man of his word🤣
All that said, the reality is I'm on a flightpath a bit like you. Tickets for old Trafford and the Open next week and I have promised myself i will be there, but I'm already overthinking where I stick my leg. From what I've experienced, every week brings a bit more scope. If your target is 7th August I'd definitely try to secure a front row seat. My mate did this after his knee replacement and it worked out well. Warning, the procedure at the club can be hard going though so I suggest a visit if possible and if not, ask for Dawn if you are not making headway.

Oh, and you'll be sickof hearing this but, take your drugs and push through the exercises even though they may absolutely knack on occasion 👍

Get mobile as soon as you can, Tractor. There's some good advice coming across on here.
