Mixing Households / Workmen in the Home

Just wondering if many of you had had workmen in your home during the restrictions and if you had made them wear masks or face coverings?
As my wife and I are working at home every day at the moment, we asked the guys fitting our new back windows to wear a mask whenever they came inside, and they were accommodating, over the 3 days they were here. However they did say we were the only customer they had, who had asked them to do so?

We noticed many other neighbours in the street also having work done recently, yet we never saw anyone with a face covering at any time.

Whats the score? Are workmen exempt or does this count as mixing households?

I'm not sure you can make people grafting wear facemasks, I think the policy is to observe rules as much as possible.

Nope.Mask wearing observed where the householder does too and sanitising as we go.

In most cases workmen are in the house away from the householders and in some case wearing gloves, so the risk is minimised just like it is elsewhere.

My parents had Sky Q installed the other month gloves and mask worn but the main thing told not to be in the same room when carrying out the work sensible.

But we know people don’t follow the rules and it’s impossible to enforce them. Just look at supermarkets and you’ll see no social distancing at all.
It is possible to enforce them, but the UK population is simply non compliant and the government do not have the resources (or balls) to do it.

We didn’t wear them working together indoors for 8 months.

Yep, we were told to from last week 👍
Find it bizarre that any indoor workplace where people are sometimes close together hasn't made mask (or visor) wearing mandatory for months now. A lot have, of course - but no wonder the covid numbers aren't falling as they should during this "lockdown". Surprised that individual workers haven't chosen to mask up - for the sake of their own health and that of their families - even if the workplace doesn't insist.

I wouldn’t make them wear one. I would just keep my distance and sanitize after they have finished.

If you ask them to then you should wear one too whist they are in your household as the mask doesn’t protect the wearer but who they come into contact with regardless of whose home it is. Therefore not fair to expose them to you in the same respect.

If they requested I wear a mask before they enter the house then I wouldn’t have a problem with that.

I and my staff wear masks when we work in people’s houses. It goes without saying.

We also work at a retirement village and every contractor here wears a mask. There is sanitizer available at various points in the area as well.

Anyone working in my house would require a mask plus sanitizer on entering and then spray the area when they have finished otherwise they won’t get the job.

Make it clear before they arrive or before they quote.

😷

I know a family member who had work done and they wore masks indoors. They have a big house which makes it easier to keep distance.

I need work doing but am reluctant. Can i ask for Hazmat gear? 🤣

It's been optional in our office when you're at your desk, with wearing a mask when moving around the building compulsory.

We’ve just had our bathroom done, albeit we were at work the vast majority of the time they were there. I can’t imagine it would be very comfortable wearing a mask when tiling and doing pipe work etc. They were pretty good to be fair and sanitised after they had finished every day and when they had finished the job we ensured everywhere was sanitised and cleaned. If you use your common sense you can work safely and still make a living and still have work done on your home.
