This for me too. "Recycling the ball". Means meaningless passing around with the "claim" to be awaiting an opening but in reality it's nothing but watching Stones and Maguire aimlessly pass the ball to each other.

It was a favourite term and pastime of Critchley. Get's the possession stats up too passing about at the back for minutes at a time before launching a long ball up field.
