Any thoughts .. here's Lancs Live's opinion ...
Jerry Yates
Yates looks like a man with a renewed sense of purpose this season. Out of favour towards the end of Neil Critchley's time at the club, Yates has quickly became the go-to man in the number nine role and that will only grow in the next couple of matches given Gary Madine's suspension.
There are things that Yates can produce, particularly when it comes to his movement and link-up play that other strikers in the squad simply don't possess and Appleton's 4-3-3 system suits him down to the ground. With goals back on the agenda for the former Rotherham forward, confidence appears to be growing and that will only bring about long-term consistency.
Kenny Dougall
Dougall is the definition of what you want to see in a player when adversity hits. A difficult pre-season campaign by his and his Head Coaches admission saw him fall down the pecking order and it looked as though opportunities would be limited, yet he remained determined to fight for his place and after impressive substitute performances, earned his starting spot.
A reliable figure in recent weeks, even during more difficult contests where the midfield were somewhat overran in an unfamiliar system against Blackburn Rovers, Dougall has proven his worth to the unit going forward.
Dan Grimshaw
We all knew it was an inevitability that Grimshaw would be Blackpool's number one this campaign but for Michael Appleton to so clearly define it, it has had the desired effect. Grimshaw suits Appleton's style and it is pleasing to see him able to utilise his ability on the ball rather than bypassing the initial phase of play in a more direct fashion like Critchley requested.
