Yes by subversivesSome of the most highly regarded bands of all time on this thread
He only ever faced sideways on stage?Hi Rusty, good shout, Ive amended mine
Im afraid John Foxx was the Jordan Henderson of New Wave, not bad but rather overrated.
He was incredibly shy and incredibly short sighted, he thought he was facing the backHe only ever faced sideways on stage?
That made me laugh Lytham, top stuffHe only ever faced sideways on stage?
Saw them last night . . still a great live bandAnother one for me was Echo and the Bunnymen who I thought were great
Saw them late 70's at Erics.Saw them last night . . still a great live band
They used to do a bloody appalling cover version of Debaser because Bowie wanted them to be the Pixies.Tin Machine - end of thread.
And did a lot of pointing but had moisturised skinHe only ever faced sideways on stage?
Was disappointed with that album, but Rattlesnakes is superb, and Mainstream a return to form. Just being a contrarian! It’s a great Album
Liked Rattlesnakes but wasn’t too fussed by Mainstream. Really loved Lloyd Cole and the Commotions and enjoy threads like this one as it makes me dig out all the albums I’ve not listened to for yonks! Was disappointed with that album, but Rattlesnakes is superb, and Mainstream a return to form. Great band especially livePFM
Massive in Italy since the early 70's.
Little known over here
Spot on, great band.Buffalo Springfield
Dance Stance. Great track.I find these kind of threads interesting, but a bit hard to join in.
Do we equate ‘rated’ to commercial success?
I’ve always been more into the alternative scenes, so by their very nature they would be under-rated by most, even if they’ve been big in there own genres.
One band I can think of is Dexy’s Midnight Runners - I know they had chart success with a couple of hits, but their early Soul Rebel stuff was mint, well worth more than just being remembered for Geno and Come on Eileen!
Yep, one of my favourites!Dance Stance. Great track.
you lucky son of a gun
been looking at some of the highlights and they sound fantastic, not sure it's the same anymore withot DG but the new keyboard player is basically a clone.
be interested to see what you think
First saw them Lancaster University in January 1983, best band I saw loveAnother one for me was Echo and the Bunnymen who I thought were great
1i was at that Lancaster gigFirst saw them Lancaster University in January 1983, best band I saw love
With a few of same pals went to watch them on Wednesday just gone in Manchester
Still good but voice nor as strong and more of a show had a great night with dollop of nostalgia, was probably just as pissed
In reply to op I would add their contemporaries, Teardrop Explodes/ Julian Cope
Can't believe I only discovered Talk Talk a few years back
Funnily enough I was at The Teardrop Explodes concert at Lancaster Uni in Jan ‘82 I think it was. Tremendous performance from our Jules as I recall and, definitely, underrated!First saw them Lancaster University in January 1983, best band I saw love

Over the years ive probably seen them 40 or 50 times, last time was in madrid about 5 years ago. i think baz does the old stuff well but it is different compared to HC. the last few times ive seen them its also been lots of older guys recreating their youth. It was a good gig, all the old favourites plus stuff from the new album. A touching acoustic tribute to Dave Greenfield as the encore. Some of the more subtle songs were not executed too well IMO, Baz generally fits in well but looks much more comfortable doing the new stuff that he wrote. It's quite an eye opener, to think that the audience is my generation, like me they all look so old. Lots of bald pates bobbing about, or perhaps more accurately shuffling about. Good gig and they played for about 80 or 90 minutes. Not quite the same without DG but enjoyed it all the same.
Agree about The ChameleonsThe Chameleons
Puressence
John Foxx
I agree about The Sound . . Adrian Borland RIP was a real talent.Agree about The Chameleons
I would add The Sound - they made some great music
The La's - they could have been huge but imploded due to Lee Mavers OCD type behaviour
Jonny Hates Jazz
Coldplay
Renegade Soundwave
In that order.
Great band SootyI always liked the SAHB
Saw them at the Phil last Monday Blood. In sparkling form despite Mac having indulged in some form of pre-gig chemical livener that had him talking complete bollix for at least half the set.Another one for me was Echo and the Bunnymen who I thought were great
Tunde and Paul were ALWAYS rated. No mention of the Lighthouse Family?
