Moving story about Peter Shilton’s Gambling disorder

I worked with Peter on the after-dinner speaking circuit for a few years. Top bloke. Once took him in Springs Nightclub at his suggestion after a dinner at the Savoy. He was very popular with the ladies. Very down to earth guy.

Absolute parasites. They'd have been throwing free bets at him, everything to keep him gambling and losing more and more...they know the buttons to push and just milk the fuck out of people.

The quickest way for him to stop gambling would just have been to start backing a few winners...they'd have closed all his accounts in a heartbeat.
 
I've never been a gambler
However, many years ago I decided to bet on the Grand National.
I picked a horse at random, It was called Rondetto.
Coming down the last straight it was about 15 lengths in the lead.
Then it decided to jump a fence that wasn't there. It fell with the rider.
I've never bet on a horse race since, nor anything else except the |lottery. 😒
 
Nobody liked him in the England camp. Total dick from all accounts and looking at the brass hes hooked up with, say no more.

Not for me, he hindered us in 1986 when a five feet nothing Maradona out jumped him even if it was with his hand and he was old and slow in 1990, never should have conceded the German goal over his head and was ** shit on penalties.

In 86, the druggies hand wasn't even outstretched, merely over his head. Shilton looked like he had lead in his boots.

And in 90, the shot that ballooned up off Parker took so long to come down it had snow on it. He didn't get close to any of the Kraut penalties.

I blame Robson for picking the geriatric.
 
Nob or not - addiction is no fun. Glad he’s over it. He may well have behaved like a nob because of his addiction.
