Moxon turned down improved deal

Just back from school pick up, and my mate has informed me that Owen Moxon has supposedly turned down his improved contract offer from Carlisle and is definitely heading out elsewhere.

Carlisle have secured a midfielder today from Sunderland, which reading between the lines ,is Moxons replacement.
After his disappointing season so far , albeit him being a local lad , my mate is happy enough to get rid.

I’m not entirely convinced he’s the answer to the departed Dougall, but will we go back sniffing a second time as a cheap option ?

Carlisle are now in a better position where they can afford to let him go for nowt in the summer and keep him until the end of the season in the hope he can help them stay up (which they won’t) survival will mean more to them than the few hundred grand they’d get for him now.he’s still the best player at Carlisle.maybe the new owners will offer improved terms.

“He wants to just carry on playing and see what comes in the summer, which is obviously disappointing but he’s perfectly within his rights to do that. I think he’s going to wait and see what else is out there for him, and probably wait and see where we are."

No chance we get him this window IMO.

From Carlisle's perspective, any offer we put in now (don't see us bidding more than 250k) won't be worth the value of them potentially staying up or the trust they lose from their fans in selling him to a division rival for cheap.

From Moxon's perspective, he'll have more options in the Summer if he keeps his head down and kicks on and if we're the only team bidding for him why would he sign now when he could potentially do better in the Summer?

Likely scenario is that he runs his contract down, Carlisle are relegated, and we're no longer interested in him as we'll be in the Championship. 😉 *knock on wood*

Ten points behind fifth bottom their down already, the club might think the same and at least get some money now than stuff all in summer?

Carlisle have also signed Josh Vela from Fleetwood today.
It's a striker they need to have any chance of staying up.

I doubt we get him this window. Looks like he's waiting till the end if the season to get a nice signing on bonus. He's currently only on £600 a week at Carlisle so he will be wanting to get the most money he can. I mean he's 26 and it is a short career. There was a rumour before Christmas that we had sorted personal terms with him and it was just the fee with Carlisle that was the problem. If that was true, which is a huge IF, then he could easily come to us in the summer.

Derby are interested in him apparently, so we could have a fight on our hands in the summer if we're even still interested in him.

He will go where the money is, question is which other teams might be interested and offer him more than us. Happy if we can get him on the cheap, but at what price?

For some reason, I just dont see this happening. If Derby and Bolton are in, they will pay bigger wages than us and he seems to be just wanting money so we're out. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised though.

For me if we are to sign one player this month I would go for someone like Greg Docherty at 27yrs, contract up this season
played over 300 games he would bring a different dimension to the team IMO. What the cost would be I dont know.

From the player's point of view the best thing would be to wait to the summer, both from a financial point of view and also a career options point if view.
I think a few if our players are doing that, as well

Not necessarily - he’s on very very little at the moment if the rumours are to be believed, so moving now would give him significantly higher wages ~5 months sooner and remove the potential for a significant injury putting that big contract at risk.

Absolutely no way he's on £600 a week...

Bolton, Derby and Portsmouth all had an interest. Pompey have no money, so would only be interested in the summer and I'd guess if they were to miss out on promotion. I suspect we'll have a late bid for him but it sounds like Matete at Sunderland is our primary target.

He signed a 1 year deal with the option of another year from Scotland division 2. It was his first professional contract as he was a delivery driver whilst playing in Scotland. This has come from the Carlisle fans, as they couldnt believe he had chosn to stay on £600 when they were offering him to become their most expensive wage. They took a punt on him that worked out well for them, but he is still their lowest paid first team player.

When we played Carlisle at home, I was on a bus with a Carlisle fan after the game and he said that Moxon was on between £500 and £600. It's well known he's one of their lowest paid players as he came from semi-professional to them. They reckon that he's lost about £50,000 in wages by not signing a new contract with them so far.

He's nothing like Kenny Dougall though, he's more of an Albi Morgan type from what I've seen of him

Although at 6' 2" he's 3 inches taller. And finding out Albie Morgan is 5' 11" was a shock to me. He looks 5' 9" tops. The same height as Dale. Because when they are warming up together they look like twins.

Watched Carlisle a few times and, once at Bloomfield Road and a couple of times on TV. I've not noticed Moxon, he certainly hasn't stood out like Brannagan does, a player we were never going to get.

however a quick google onto one of those sites that "claims" to know players wages says he's on £1800 a week. Players at my local team Macclesfield are on over a grand a week in NPL so he's either got the shittest agent ever or he's a fool if he is on £600 a week.
