Moxon

If we were going to spend £1m on a player I'd rather it be Nombe from Exeter, 2 season with double digits in league 1. Some clubs/fans really over estimate how much players are worth.
I agree, look at that Carlisle team, it's destined for relegation. They weren't exactly impressive in the play off games I watched either. The best he can probably hope for from Carlisle is £2K a week and a 2yr deal. One poor season and let's be honest they are going to struggle, his stock could crash. As others have said, he's 25 and never played above L2. A 3yr deal, plus double what Carlisle could offer and be challenging at the top end of the table will have turned his head. It may not be to us, but I suspect in 3wks time he'll have moved on.

He's apparently been offered £4k a week with a £1m release clause. The release clause could be the issue as he's said that it isn't the money. Even he may realise that no one will pay that and then he's stuck. I doubt he will be there at the end of this month, where he will be is the question though.

Meanwhile he also addressed the Own Moxon situation, with both the club and the player looking to concentrate on the football and avoid the distractions.

“No, nothing’s happened, there’s been no discussions with him,” he told us. “The contract’s there for him. There’s been nothing at all this week, he’s just got on with training and I haven’t spoken to him about any of it.

“He knows it’s there and it’s up to him to come to us. I want him to stay, that’s quite clear, but there’s no change. He’s training with us and getting on with it and he’s available for the weekend.

“We do talk, I speak to him, but we’ve not discussed the contract. He has conversations with me about the future of the football club. He’s not completely ruled it out.

“I can’t really tell you where his head’s at because I haven’t had that discussion. I just want him to focus on his football. For me, the biggest thing is he needs to just perform. When he’s selected he needs to perform.

“If I get to a point where I think he’s not performing, then he won’t be in the team. There’ll be no favouritism, I won’t be treating him any different to what I have before. He’s our player and I want him to stay that way.”

“There’s no timeframe, I’m not putting a deadline on it, I just want him to stay,” he concluded. “I suppose the ultimate deadline will be next June 30, if he hasn’t signed the contract, but we can’t do anything about that.

“I want him here. I know for a fact he enjoys being here. It’s just his head’s been turned a little bit, which is understandable, and we’ve just got to turn it back and make sure he’s fully focused on us.”

“We do talk, I speak to him, but we’ve not discussed the contract “ yeah right, you really want him to stay, but you’ve not said that to him, or discussed what he would want to stay.

So, reading between the lines Simpson (I assume) hasn't spoken to him about the contract.

500k-750k is probably what he’s worth, but to Carlisle, keeping him a full year to help ensure survival is worth more than that.

However, from his perspective, the already short career of a footballer is already shorter for him given his late start, and at 25 probably needs to make a big jump sooner rather than later.

Coming to us would provide a bigger platform and pay jump which is significant enough to make him seriously consider it.

Might be a case of head fighting agaist heart. His heart wants to stay at his boyhood club and his head wants to secure his future and an extra 100k a year in wages would go a long way in doing that.

and probably is the advice from his agent

Find it a bit strange that Simpson is putting all this in the public domain. Unless, of course, it is trying to deflect from the club by putting pressre onto the player. It certainly wouldn't haapen with NC.

Was thinking the same, only positive out of putting everything out in the open is to posture to the fans that they did everything they could to keep him if he leaves.

Doubt Moxon and his agent would appreciate that as now the spotlight is completely on them.

It's one of thoes now that if he leaves, he forced a move, and the club isn't at fault. They're covering their own arse.

Virtue v2 looks much stronger and as a result hopefully less likely to pick up injuries. He's always been a goal threat and a decent player, plus he's proved that at L1 level. Moxon looks like he'd be able to step up no issues and had an outstanding season in L2 but that doesn't always happen. It may well be Virtue wants assurances he'll be involved which I'm unsure we'd be able to give him, not to mention the lure of Holywood millions and the Wrexham project.
Apparently James mclean is having talked at wrexham

Aye, nothing in his absence. We will be keeping tabs on the situation, if we feel their stance has changed and they would be interested in an offer, I'm sure we'll do so. It's a waiting game for both Moxon and Banks, they are our number 1 targets. If neither happen, I'm sure we have other irons in the fire.

Apparently Banks is in Hamburg ready to sign for St Pauli.
