We will be visiting Munich in April for a weekend in April to go to a gig, Bayern are also at home that weekend so hopefully we may get to see that as well

I am after any hints or tip/recommendations as to where the best areas are to stay. The two main areas for the hotels appear to be the old town or in the south side of the centre of Munich..... But not having been there before I am a little sketchy as to where the best area to book would be

Also is the transport system fairly decent as I know the gig venue is in the same area as the football stadium

Any advice would be appreciated

For a short trip don't try to do to much. The old town is worth a visit. If you can get to the Hofbrauhaus go at lunchtime - more relaxed than in the evening. If it's too busy, there are two other excellent bars on the same square.

Marienplatz is pretty much centre of the Old Town. As 66 suggests if only going for a weekend and a gig already booked & possible Bayern game stick round there and take in the local culture & fayre.
If you must see more the Olympic Park is worth a look famous for its unique roof design on the main stadium where I watched England stuff Germany 5-1 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 (also where Bayern used to play 20 years or so ago)
I went and took my two lads for a Stadium Tour the year after in 2002, some interesting stories about planning and conservation leaving the Stadium unused !!
That 1972 Olympics are also sadly remembered for the terror attack on the Israeli Team.

Whats the venue for the gig? The transport system in Munich and surrounding area is brilliant and very reliable that gives the flexibility to stay slightly outside of the centre but within easy reach and if it’s the end of April there’s a good chance that the Biergartens will be open in the Englischergarten which are an experience not to be missed. l normally stay in the east side of the city (Bogenhausen) which is about 12 mins from the city centre by underground.

The gig is at the Zenith on the Saturday night (mid April)

Was there in Oct to see Bayern, I was lucky enough to see Harry’s goal from the halfway line. So in terms of hotel try Relexa Hotel Munchen, which is relatively new but good prices and clean and most importantly 5 mins from the train station with the U Bahn and S Bahn there too. Allianz is some way out, about 30-40 mins on U Bahn but the journey soon passes. Note to get match tickets you do not need to be a member, you apply via the website once signed up and if unsuccessful you can then buy on the resale site. I was lucky enough to get first time. Recommended sightseeing if you get chance - Olympic Stadium which has numerous walkways incl one on the roof, Olympic Tower next to the stadium and the English Garden where you can watch the surfers on the river, it’s actually fantastic to watch. Hope that helps. Enjoy

Like most German Cities the transport system is great so you'll have no problem getting around. Always worth doing a bit of planning before you go just to familiarise yourself with the colour of various U Bahn lines and directions but it's straightforward enough.

If you're there for just a couple of days I can highly recommend doing a Segway or Cycle tour of the City so that you can get around and see as much as possible in a short time. If the weather is good then a walk to the Englisher Garten on the way is worth a visit, you can get a beer and some food at the Chinese Tower before getting the U Bahn to Zenith.

Hotels wise - too be honest loads to choose from and loads of options so depends on budget and what you want but you won't struggle to find something. Depending on when you go you may also be lucky and The Springfest could be on (the smaller beer festival) in April/May!
