I don't know if it's been mentioned already but one of our former player Nathan Shaw is playing for Inverness in the scottish Cup final against Celtic today.
I always hoped he would break into the first team but was never given a run of games which he deserved to show his skill.
Well done Nathan all the best for today and i hope you score the winner.

yeah, had a few discussions with Insy about him. Another of those young players that got plenty of game time in pre-season friendlies and did quite well but not given a chance once the season got under way. Pleased for him that he's getting a chance to shine on the big stage. Will he start?

Wiki shows he's scored 9 times in 32 appearances for Inverness so, if that's correct, he's getting picked and scoring goals, which didn't happen at BFC or when loaned to Stockport and Fylde. I always thought he had a problem with his body language/confidence but he seems to be getting over that as he matures. Good luck to him today.

outside of the auld firm I’m assuming teams like Inverness are probably Div 1 or maybe more Div 2?

Good on the lad for getting paid to play football for a career

He was always a favourite of mine and did very well through the Academy. I agree about him not necessarily looking like a footballer but everyone has their own style. He was good with both feet and scored plenty of goals but like others have said never get a proper chance. I think ultimately because he wasn't getting a chance it was his decision to leave rather than BFC not wanting him.
I used to speak to his Dad regularly about the trials and tribulations of a young footballer.

That’s one thing I never understood about Critchley and the club. Critchley came from a young player development background, Sadler said we were trying to follow the Brentford model, yet our young players were given very little, if any, chance here. The loan clubs we sent them to were mostly to low down for them to learn anything, no wonder some left feeling disillusioned.

The problem is, that's the level they're at, you can't play them in L1 let alone the Championship if they're just not good enough.

Inverness are in the Scottish Championship, looking at their players I think they're more like National League level.

This past season wasn’t one to try them out, no. But they may as well stay with us as go to clubs like Bamber Bridge etc. they might as well leave.

I liked him that pre-season where he played pretty much every game and looked a prospect, so was sad to see him drop down and then not make it at Fylde, so for him to start against Celtic in the Scottish Cup today is great to see. I might even watch it now! :)

The thing about sending them out to NL/NPL is that they can train with us, but also play competitive football.

The way the club is handling it is about progression, play in the NPL, prove you're good enough there, move up to NLN, then NL, and if you can prove yourself there then maybe you can then get a go in L1/2.

Remember, the current set up is only a few years old, it takes time for the players to come through, maybe we will see some of them given a chance in the first team next year.

Problem with that is if they move up the ladder, as you say, by the time we deem them good enough they will be about 30 🤣🤣🤣

I can accept in most cases the standard at our Academy would probably not warrant the step up to the Championship. League 1 is more achievable. However @Phil_bfc deux says we aren't allowed to play our young players, even in pre-season friendlies, or talk about them because we are only a Category 3 Academy.
