National One-Hit Wonder Day

The Motors! I don't know which came first but, weirdly, Forget About You was essentially the Grandstand theme.

I had forgotten about them until lately when I came across them while watching OGWT clips and I actually bought the Dancing the night away single back in the day 👍

I had completely and I mean completely forgotten about that one☝😢

Some great one hit wonders mentioned but surely there are several that were only minor hits in the first place. There must be thousands in that category!

When - Kalin Twins
Matchstick men and dogs- Brian and Michael
ABCDEFU- Gayle which is gringeworthy in my opinion!

It’s the “Pop“ Police again.
Icicle works only just crept into top 15 and very few younger ones are familiar with it.
Not considered a one hit wonder!
I thought the criteria for it to be classed as a hit was for it to have reached the Top 40 (see post #186) and that's the only one they had🤷‍♂️
I didn't realise there were any "younger ones" on here........

A record that fails to reach the top 10 is hardly a “wonder” hit.
Some of the records on here I have hardly heard of and I have an excellent knowledge of pop.
Of course there are exceptions where a song matures and is timeless.
As mentioned, Frank Wilson ( do I love you) was not even released as a single until years later.
It definately warrants a one hit wonder!

what about Crazy World of Arthur Brown - Fire.

Oh! Happy days- The Edwin Hawkins singers.
Deck of cards- Wink Martinedale.
Theme from Exodus- Ernest Gold.
One day at a time ( Sweet Jesus)- Lena Martell
Dominica- The singing Nun.

Any other religious one hit wonders?

Surprised that @THEMISSINGLINK link hasn't been on (unless I missed it) with some Northern Soul one hit wonders.

Am amazed that Dobie Gray, Out on the Floor only reached 42 in the UK with The Incrowd peaking at 25.

This is such a great song by a great band for me i only just realised it was their only hit.

I you are a rock music fan and have never heard this give it a whirl and it scored highly in Peel's(are we allowed to mention him still🙄) all-time top 40....

As I said, it depends on your definition of a one hit wonder. Billboard and The Official Chart Company define a hit as a record reaching the Top 40, so having only one Top 40 entry makes that act a one hit wonder. The Guinness Book of Hit Singles definition is a lot more strict, the record must have been a number 1 and there must have been no other entries in the Top 75, cutting out a good percentage of the records mentioned on this thread.

I'm not sure about the argument that just because you haven't heard of a record is enough to disregard it's existence;)

And you are correct about Fire

I think many will take issue with Lou Reed and Iggy Pop being classed as one-hit-wonders dodgy
Yep, Iggy Pop also released Lust for Life and Real Wild Child from memory.

Another couple from the 70's?

You are My Love - Liverpool Express
Woodstock - Matthew Southern Comfort

Inside - Stilitskin from the 00's iirc.

Like I posted earlier and asked could anyone name another track from the Lotus Eaters, I'll give you another......
Brian and Michael, matchstick cats n dogs.
Yeh they wasn't 1 hit wonders but name another without googling 😉
Go on, enlighten us then🙏
