Negative posts on fb and Twitter....

We don’t half have some reptiles that follow us. Were we bad today? Yes. Yet Lavery still should’ve had a hat trick. We’re 4 games in ffs. Loads to improve on, but we’re unbeaten and yet to concede. The people moaning now are the same ones last year screaming that defensively we were gash and too easy to play against 🤷

I don't carry a notepad around to make note of who's saying what and when so I can't comment on that but it seems to me that there's a happy medium between not being able to defend and going all out to defend at the cost of our attacking capability. I expect a good manager to find that happy medium and I'm waiting to see if Critchley is that manager.

The wait is currently a little frustration, I have to say!

I have no notepad, either. As a generalisation, it’s the some ones moaning.

It’s just hard to get my head round people hammering the team (that hasn’t lost, or looked like losing, btw) after 4 games. As I said earlier, we were poor today and likewise midweek, but there’s no trophies handed out in August. Pretty sure I read a post in midweek that had given Bolton the league. That looks great this evening. People need to calm the fuck down.

To be fair, there are one or two on here, that hardly ever go to a game, that are moaning constantly, win lose or draw!

People do need to calm the fuck down but I think it's fine to express one's concerns and thoughts about the team, squad and performances and debate opinions, it is what a forum is about after all.

Moaners? Still in the Championship?

We have played 5 games and conceded 0 goals. That’s amazing. Yes we are struggling to score and we need a striker but it’s not always the team with the best attack which wins things but the team with the best defence.

I still enjoyed the game on Saturday, it was a challenge and one we will learn from. There is 2/3 players yet to come in for sure. Players are being assessed all the time and I’m sure Critchley will know what he wants. If it’s a possession based team he’ll know after these 4 games what to tweak. More quality is needed, Oakley Boothe could be a move in the right direction. But IMO too much play is from Norburn and is predictable hence the 3 draws. Everyone knows we are short of strikers and a player or two who can run with the ball I hope. Oh for a Dobbie or similar.

Exeter, Port Vale & Orient all had chances to score against us & no way have we looked like a team that could score twice.
May seem ridiculous so early in the season but unless Critchley sets up to be more creative defeats seem more imminent than resounding victories. Really could go either way.

For me it’s not about the results we have had it’s more about how we go about trying to win , of course assuming that’s what we’re trying to do .

Haven’t looked like losing? Orient should of had a penalty first half after yet another expecteta error we’ve been lucky

They could have but they didnt, we're fairly solid and then when called upon, Grimshaw is a good keeper. We will concede eventually of course.

We certainly need some creativity, need to pass and stick to our style more, not just go long.

But some of the reaction seems ott.

I'm disappointed with some of the performances but I don't get some going after NC after a handful of games. Quite a few seem to be the one's still bitter he left.

What I want to see is more control of possession, as that's what is said we play, dominate the games and we build and improve from there. We didn't even dominate the game on Saturday. At least of people can see us dominating the ball you can see the plan, when you do that eventually you'll progress up the pitch, lure the opposition out or pin them back.

Then with a bit more creativity we'll put away a few chances and have less against is.

It's said we play possession football, let's properly play it them.

Is this the Happy Clappers R Us thread? PMSL.

"Everything is fine Nigel. I cannot believe anyone would be disappointed by the fantastic performances".

"Yes I know Herbert. These folk expressing opinions on AVFTT have made me so cross I tutted at them twice today. Just so ungrateful. Nearly as cross as all those NAPM types".
Suppose it’s better than being negative bed wetters ,throwing their toys out of the pram, threatening to boycott type of posters 😅

If this league is so easy why haven’t bigger clubs than ours got out of it after one season?
Yep this. Sunderland had 4? seasons at this level and even then needed the play offs to get out of it.
Plenty of other clubs far bigger than ourselves needed a couple of seasons to get to grips with this league before getting promoted. Infact once they lost the attitude that’s when they did well.

Whether we like it or not too many of our fanbase on the quiet thought we would piss this league and there is absolute zero patience.

Lavery really should have scored twice on his own against Orient, so yes way😉

But we were gash defensively last season and too easy to play against. This seson the defence is fine but we aren't scoring goals because the set up is gash. We're right both times but here's hoping it gets better.

The stats so far are a little skewed because nobody seems to be taking into account that 3 of the 4 games have been at home where the onus is on us to score. Not including the Derby game for obvious reasons.

Had the 3 been away it looks a bit different to me.

They had double are shots in the first half. Slight improvement in the second half so it went from shocking to just poor. If people think it was a good performance, then they will celebrate staying up.
In the 2nd half, we had 10 times their shots.

That's how you view a "Slight improvement" and "just poor" and is what makes me question your opinion.

We barely created and looked shite on the ball. Stats can be bent by shitty little shots that aren’t threatening. It was an awful performance and one that would get the manager sacked later in the season.

You sound a bit overdramatic. 42 league games to come with lots of ups and downs along the way so enjoy the fun. The first bit of the season will be the bedding in stage, a bit like moving into a new house and sorting the decorating out but it will look nice in time. 👍

It will never look nice with Lyons at left back and CJ at right and relying on Husband and Casey to provide overlapping runs. Don’t stop dreaming though, it’s all we have.

Orient looked the better and should have had a pen. No way you can turn anything from Saturday into a positive. It was a very poor performance and it will only continue playing these random bullshit tactics.
Why are you so negative. Claiming Orient missed a coupe sitters. I never saw them apart from good saves from Grimshaw and a late chance.
If Virtue had taken the late chance against Exeter and Lavery shot at the death we would be 4 points better and top.
Please be positive for once!

All it’s and buts. It just wasn’t good enough and if that’s the standard, it’s going to be a long season. We might just have enough to stay up though.

They missed the 2 best chances of the game, one at either end of the pitch.

RIGHT!...To Hell with that's all we've got. The personnel are fine.
4-3-3 with either keeper; a back line of two wing backs: Lyons/Gabriel on the right, Husband/ Thompson on the left. A centre back pairing of Pennington with Casey/Marv in the middle.
A midfield three of Trybull, (try some encouraging man management), or Norburn, with two from: Morgan, Hamilton, Apter, Tharme, Dougall, Virtue, Dale, Carey and Weir.
And a two man forward line containing any combination of Beesley, Lavery ,& Trybull. Yes we're short up front.

Yes, I would have to agree with a lot of that.

The key word for me is attitude and that goes for the players and for the fans and when it works in harmony, the club will naturally rise. Hard to achieve, takes time and as you say- definitely patience.

Before we kicked a ball in pre season, of course my expectations were high, but a realistic part of me said ‘maybe we will finish in the top ten, for now’.

We just need a few wins. Get 2/3 wins on the bounce and the moaning will slow down alot, it will never stop though. I have to admit, I'm usually very positive, but after the last few games I feel flat. Even a good signing would get most happy again.

Good post. It's easy to rationalise stuff in the cold light of day but as football fans we live off emotion and at the.moment, we're all flat.
