NEW BLOG: Manchester Mission #9

I have to say that, a few years ago, the “Temple of Convenience” was one of the most disgusting bars I ever entered. The door of the (single) toilet did not shut properly nor did the toilet flush and there was piss all over the floor which was tramped through the rest of the bar. As it was mid-summer the whole place stank to high heaven. We quickly left without ordering. I trust it’s much improved if you are recommending it.

Oddly enough, I can just about remember in the mid-70s when it really was a public convenience run by the city council along with the one in Albert Square. Must have been Victorian in date. They were immaculately clean, brightly lit, smelt fresh and the brass piping and even the doors were highly polished. No graffiti at all. Each was run full-time by a white-coated attendant who had a little office/store by the entrance. One used to tip him by leaving tuppence in a bowl on leaving.
