Can this be right? I’m sure Steve mentioned the other day each session was limited to 24 players. Bearing in mind we were averaging between 10 and 11 players each week for the 6pm session I’m struggling to see that we’ve suddenly found double the amount. Impressed and happy if we have but is it worth checking with the Trust?

24 for the 6pm session would be fantastic numbers. We need to re-build our Over 50's team as some have
retired and others moved into the 60s squad.
We need some young blood to return to competitive ways. Nick and Neil are 59 this year as well.

We have had a bit of interest on our Facebook page from "younger" players.

Hi everyone,

The 4:30pm - 5:30pm 50+ session has 24 places available each session.

The 6pm - 7pm 35+ session has 12 places available each week and this is now full for next Monday.

This is due to the amount of pitches that are allocated per session.

If you have any more questions please call 01253 348 691.

Sorry guys. My fault. I had forgotten that we only had one pitch for the 6pm session.

May I suggest that anyone over 50 (and can make the earlier session) gives the 4.30 slot a go (if there are any places left !) either Monday or Thursday.

Still that is good as it means Brad and Dave won't have to play to make the numbers up. This group will have to adhere to the "walking" rule more strictly so that anyone hoping to play competitively for the Over 50's squad will be "down to speed".

Thanks Steve, is there any way an extra pitch could be looked into? I’m sure when I first started the 6pm session we often used to play on more than one pitch. I am over the magical 50 now but I wouldn’t be able to make the 4.30 session due to work and if the numbers are there potentially it would be great to get more down.

I think that

Brad aka De Bruyne will be gutted

I must admit if we want to build on the 50's for succession purposes we need at least the option of a second pitch as we can't invite anyone new down as the regulars will take all the spots and four or five of them aren't yet ' old enough ' to play

I am sure we can ask the Trust to look at 2 pitches for 6pm if we can guarantee 20 per session. That should be achievable over the summer months with the better weather.

That will be imperative to rebuild the 50s squad. Of course anyone wishing to play competitively for the Senior Seasiders will
need to be members of the Club.

A plan of action will be to collect names from Monday's session and then add all those who couldn't book on. Get people signed on as members (£15 a year subs) and then push for 2 pitches with the Trust. Some 50's squad players will be at the 4.30 sessions as well.

Yes we always had two pitches when i first started coming down as the numbers were pretty high, but then started to drop of hence now only 1 pitch

Think we need that second pitch on reserve if we need it

As there are loads spare maybe we agree we pay if we use it

You’ll never get people joining if they can’t rock up and play

Either way we can’t be limiting to 12 - even if it means three teams with one off

We never used to and it is going to inhibit new recruits which we need

Exactly right Tim , we have had 3 teams of five or six on numerous occasions and played a round robin, winner stays on .

Thats OK guys as long as folk don't want a full hour of activity. Had problems at the 4.30 sessions a long time ago when
players were asked to wait off court.

😭 Im going to miss you all.......

never mind, I'll go out for a walk & try not to pull anything!!

When can we book for the next session? ( I assume next Monday is off due to the Bank Hol)

The previous system always worked well and meant everyone was accommodated so revert to that. As it stands even regulars are sometimes unable to get in never mind newbies.

The fact you could just rock up was always a big plus. It help's encourage anyone who fancies giving it a whirl but is undecided or unsure or even unconvinced.

I hate standing watching myself but the round robin turnaround was so quick it was absolutely fine.

Yep need to have two pitches available even if it means paying abit more if we dont use one, like eel said dont like standing around but games come thick and fast anyway and gives time for a breather ,c u all later

I thought this link was about people who d been booked maybe sensationally sent off playing walking football.
Peveresly I'm a bit disappointed now 🙄

Disappointing tonight, paid for Walking Football , got full on 6 a side , lasted about five minutes, if I’d have known I wouldn’t have booked.

The WF rules should be strictly applied otherwise it is making a mockery out of the whole idea. For those who have aspirations of playing in competition WF the rules are strictly adhered to. For those who want full on 6 a side they would be far better looking for Vets football.
Writing as one who is proud to be a pioneer of WF it really angers me that so many just don’t seem to understand the basic fundamentals of this version of the beautiful game...

I agree, I want walking so I can compete on a level footing, I just can't run anymore & in the 35+ group, I'm nearly 60, so need as much levelling as possible, plus believe it or not.. I'm prone to injury, when I can get a spot on the session, I do hope my fellow old farts feel the same way?

Id rather we follow the walking rules, then us slower, more injury prone players can compete fairly, its when you find yourself having to sprint to keep up you get knackered & pull something.
Dave did the proper rules once or twice, but I understand he is pressured by the fitter faster lads..

Slow is the future!! 😊

Fitter faster lads need to find a fitter faster form of football. Otherwise the pure walkers will not be able to book on as they are blocking the system and we will never be able to re-build the competitive side either.

It isn't rocket science.

I don't think it's a conscious decision to play at a faster speed, it just settles at one that seems to work for the group who are playing at that time.

If it's too fast for everyone who wants to play then obviously needs throttling back. Definitely don't want to be putting anyone off.

The runners need pulling up, Electric. I know it will make it a bit stop-start but WF is a different concept to Vets Football
and the pace needs to be set early on so new players become acquainted with the rules. It also reduces injuries and allows for the less fit to compete fairly.
Any Over 50's should really contemplate the 4.30 session if they can make it. The Over 70s will show how you can still play effectively without speed.
Alternatively we introduce 3 touch to minimise the moving with the ball. Either that or we use Argentinian Bollas to slow them down.

I am over 50 Steve, but unfortunately I still have to work for a living so the earliest I can get there is 6 pm . Since I started playing WF, it has done my health the world of good , but I’m not fit enough to play at the pace some of these lads want to play.

I'm the same as Fatboy, I am nearly 60, but still have to work, so the 4:30pm session is not viable to me...

Think dave and brad ref it as they do because hardly anyone says anything about the pace ,but when it has been mentioned before they do pull it up,just need to make sure that it is done to the proper rules of walking football,i am sure that everyone will accept that ,anyway no play next mon so some of us are going down to stanley park instead if anyone wants to come down same meet up as last time

Is there "an over 50 but moves like 70, been waiting for years for the game to slow down to my speed" group?
