Next Tuesday weather

So 33 degrees on the Gold Coast, meant to feel like 36. I know a lot of us have dealt with hotter or the equivalent abroad but it really isn‘t the same over here when you’re at home.

So what plans or contingency do you have in place, if any ?
Luckily I have the week off as working next Tuesday would be extremely unpleasant. But can’t say I’m looking forward to it at home either.

Too hot for a day out and too hot indoors at home without aircon.

I’m going to look for a paddling pool today and will place it under a shaded tree in my garden and immerse my feet in it all day. What a waste of a bloody day off 😒
You ?

Yes, we’ve been talking about it too…and dreading it! Our house is extremely hot upstairs in summer and the bedrooms are “like a fu…ing pizza oven!” (my husband’s words.) it’s even worse since we bought Henry, our British Shorthair, because we can’t even open the windows to create a through draft.🙄. Just going to keep sighing and moaning about how hot it is all day, I guess and drinking lots of water…
My younger son works at Peel Park and is also dreading Tuesday as the office is always really hot…

We'll have our grandson (5yrs) all day Tuesday & Wednesday (started school hols yesterday), so as usual, it's going to be challenging 👦.
We're planning a trip to an aquarium, as it has to be cool in there for the 🦈🐠 - doesn't it?
Then we'll take him to an icecream cafe that we've identified in Frodsham.
He pestered the ears off his mum to go to Chester Zoo yesterday, then spent all the visit moaning that he was hot, his legs were tired and saying he was hungry.
If you buy a paddling pool Lala, you'll do best to sit in it all day & monitor AVFTT for those iminent incomings 🍊

I used to attend Peel Park. After sitting there day after day doing absolutely nothing useful or productive they gave me a retirement package...the only semi-decent thing that shower ever did for me.

Will have the usual week. More worried about keeping Grand daughter cool. Got a powerful fan. Front garden has shade. Thing is everyone, Don't rush about. If you are having to walk somewhere, Example, Going to Doctors. Allow yourself extra time. And have a couple of minutes outside the building. Because if you arrive somewhere hot and bothered it will be very hard to cool down. Have plenty of water too.

.... how long was your husband in a pizza oven for?😁

Making sure the cattle are safe from the heat... moving them to fields with hedges/ trees for shade and ponds to cool off in... the dairy cows producing milk can suffer with severe heat stress, so they have access to the sheds where we have four 4 foot diameter fans to create a cooling breeze and we shower them down with a hose... busy days ahead 👍

I've had mobile aircon for years now. Never really used it. It still seems unlikely that I'll need to. This is the North West after all.

Oops just posted a thread about similar Lala - we've a school summer production at night in the hall on the Monday, which will no doubt be 'toasty'. Just need to get on with it, drink plenty and dress appropriately. Glad we invested in a tower fan last summer, it's been handy in the bedroom helping to sleep when it's hot.

We've got three of the fuckers, office, living room and bedroom.

Some pretty complacent posts on here. Anything above body temperature 37C is fundamentally dangerous. At these air temperatures, the body cannot lose its naturally produced heat, and is taking in heat from the environment. Only takes a couple of degrees increase to be fatal.

On holiday, plunge / swimming pools / the sea, help regulate heat and keep you safe. All the lessons from those who live in these temperatures, of loose fitting cover all clothing, use of shade, closing curtains, use natural breeze, etc. Fans blasting 40C air around will cause more damage.

Old and vulnerable people who cannot move around to help themselves are most at danger. Check your neighbours, help them with curtains if necessary, put a jug of water in the fridge.

I hope it doesn't come, but anything above 35 C will kill people.

How does the rest of the world manage ? Answer, they just get on with it, some don’t have a choice and don’t have the luxuries we have in the northern hemisphere, give over ffs.

They are used to it, and have strategies to survive, they don't "just get on with it" Look at how the Tuareg live, they are careful with everything they do. You ignore it if you wish, it's a free world, but you can't beat basic science.

What flowers would you like on your grave?

Wow.

Stanley Park, been there since 1990 as a member.
Had chances to go elsewhere but love the place 👍🏻
That’s where I started playing as a kid in the 1960’s but left in 1983 when I moved to Cambridge. Great course for a municipal. Hope you don’t lose them holes across the road!

Well this might seem obvious but the coolest room in your house will be the north facing ground floor room, unless you have a basement/cellar.

If you have a conservatory then close the doors to wherever it joins the house.

Close all the blinds and curtains in your house ... forever! :) Not really, just for a week or so.

Wear cotton and drink lots of fluids.

Don't go outside unless there is shade/cover. The temperature they forecast is the shade temperature. You can add at least 10 degrees C for the direct sunlight temperature.

The NHS is still not ready for a weekend of beer and BBQ. It does not have the capacity for for dehydrated fools.

All the above…close blinds…drink plenty etc…just 1 little extra we do is dangle freezer blocks onto the fans…works a treat.
