No 6.

In the past two or three transfer windows we’ve been crying out for a No6, Barlaser, Brannigan, Bushiri etc, is there anyone on here with any sensible suggestions for a player who can fill this position. For me this type of player needs to be robust , reliable, mobile and obviously needs to have vision and the ability to pick a pass. Discuss.

In my day a No.6 was a Tony Adams type.......
Big strong centre back, no messing about.
Gary Briggs is another.
Holding midfield player?

I think the time is approaching we are going to have to bring in 3 experienced players (certainly two). The club have identified players in the past who could influence the 1st team, Barlatzer indeed would be the No 6 you mention, a 1st pick Centre Half would be my choice along with a pacy striker just like Morris yesterday. But some players will have to leave, Williams Povada & may be Fiorini could go back to there clubs. Are these experienced players available & can the club afford to employ them remains to be seen ?

Need to turn the page and start looking at C's.

It’s time the club decided if we want to be a championship club or a league one club. We and they are finding out you can’t run a championship club on a league one budget. I’m not suggesting we spend millions we haven’t got on trying to buy success, but we need better than we currently have and stop buying crocks like Bridcutt. Really good player when fit but rarely fit, see his stats over the last 5 years. Instead of wasting smaller wages on poor quality spend a larger amount on a bit of quality who will play the majority of games and influence proceedings.

I think Kenny is better as an 8 and I don’t think CC is the long term answer

Number 6 is traditionally the DM/half-back role, whereas 8 is more of an AM/inside forward role, I'm not sure that I'd play either ahead of Carey/Patino/Fiorini in that position, although of course definitions and opinions vary.

Kenny Dougall had a good game at number 6 yesterday, if he could play like that consistently problem solved. But then we need a better number 9 or 14 in our case!!

Archie Collins at Exeter looks like a solid dependable lad who could play higher and capable of both midfield roles in a three. Fits the profile of who we keep pretending to sign but then don't.

Here we go 3 for ya, Jay Fulton 27yrs midfielder in last season of his contract, Michael Hater 30yrs centre half out of contract, Connor Wickham 29yrs
has the pedigree & getting match fit but could he do a job for us. All of them have been on good money ? Could 3 players like these make a difference to our performances.

Jay Fulton is under contract until 2024.

We've got two decent numbers 6's in Dougall and Connolly I'd rather have a decent right back so one of them could play there.
When Appleton played Patino in that role and Kenny further up it didn't work and when the roles where reversed it clicked.

We're desperate for another centre forward who can play up top in a 4-3-3 so the DM position is last of our worries.

Fulton's under contract until 2024, and Swansea are likely paying him far more than we ever would, I presume you mean Michael Hector, ex-Fulham, but we're just about okay at CB as it is, Wickham is at FGR and is hardly setting the world alight down there either, so I don't see how he's a step up on what we already have.

We've got an up and coming Keith Southern in the u18s, Luke Byron, and he scored yesterday. Some way off 1st team football yet but one to watch.
Of course our knowlegeable posters will have already written him off because he only plays for a Cat 3 Academy.

Personally I'd prefer a No.26 that can pick a pass, deliver quality ball from set plays and score a few goals.
If he's strong and tough tackling as well that's an added bonus.
That's why we had so much success with Charlie at his best.
You can’t just go out and buy a Charlie Adam for 500k anymore

If the club are to travel abroad during the WC break it would be ideal to take a couple of free agents with them for
consideration to potential signing in January.

When Charlie came to us he wasn't really wanted elsewhere so came to us at a price we could afford.
I guess with all that's available online to every analyst going it's nearly impossible to unearth another Charlie now.
So that's why we have to take a punt on the likes of Jordan Gabriel, Dominic Thompson, Callum Wright and others

Another name for consideration could be Herbie Kane at Barnsley 23yrs quality footballer 2yrs left on his contract. It has to be said if we are to go after a midfielder of quality who can answer a lot of questions it wont be cheap.

Unless Simon is prepared to put his hand in his pocket we’ll continue to attract only the likes of Bridcutt. We’ll have the best training facilities in League One.

Re~sign Andy Morrison on a free, end of chat! 😎😁

When Lyons arrives we can release Connolly to play in DM which I think is his best position. With Dougall and Patino we should be ok.

Long term we need to invest next summer.

Pray for a miracle during the World Cup break
With both Stuart and Bridcutt getting fit and free from injury
The problem could be solved
Or am I just too much of an optimist
