No Male Footballers in SPOTY

Cricketer Stuart Broad, jockey Frankie Dettori, footballer Mary Earps, wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewett, athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and golfer Rory McIlroy are the nominees.

Lost interest after the one hit wonder female tennis player Emma Rachacdu( cannot spell her name) won by a Country mile.
Done nothing since winning the American open.

Don't really know Hewett but the other's seem reasonable choices. Can't think of male footballer who deserves it
You'd have thought that as men's football is Britiain's favourite sport one male footballer might get a nomination at least.

England's Jude Bellingham has lit up European football for both club and country.

Man City won the European cup with a number of English lads playing major roles.

To say none deserve a nomination compared to that list is frankly ridiculous.

She's been seriously injured and then had operations on wrists and ankles. Raducanu is still very young and has every chance of getting back to the top.
She needs to stop potting her coaches every couple of months to get some stability in her life.

On the POTY subject, Stuart Broad for me.

KJT for me. Broad and Dettori are lifetime achievement award material, although the way Broad finished his last test was nothing short of perfect.

Very poor line up if I’m being honest.

Broad and Dettori only there because they’ve recently retired.

I'd give it Rory for having a moral compass and being prepared to stick his head above the parapet in regards to LIV. They'll probably give it to Mary for moaning about her goalkeeping shirt not being available.
Oh and Rory's a very good golfer too.
Earps is 1/10 if you fancy laying £1000 to win £100 ....!

Dettori said in the jungle that he's changed his mind and is no longer retiring. He said why should he give up something he loves whilst he is still fit enough to do it at the very top.
This was after a year traipsing around all the tracks charging an appearance fee to attend plus a dinner held in London at The Grosvenor Hotel at £1000 per head to celebrate his retirement...! The mans a Charlatan.

True. He's certainly milked the attention at every racecourse. Never considered all the events, functions and statues put up in his honour. Hope he refunds people that have paid a small fortune to attend. Bet he hasn't.

Plus he flogged off a load of his memorabilia for even more money

And no one mentions Josh Kerr. Wins 1500m World champs. He managed to beat the great Norwegian Ingebrigtsen.
Also think wheelchair tennis player Hewitt deserves a chance for once.

Bet Tim Henman would have loved to have won a grand slam then done nothing.
Win a grand slam at tennis or major at golf you're remembered for life.
At least Tim had a hill named after him, that was until the multi grand slam winner Andy Murray took over🤷

Early days and she's been injured, pretty standard for young players to take a while to win the next one, Serena Williams took three years after her first US Open for example.

Yeah but I'm sure Serena actually won a match or two in that time.

Unbelievable. We have the best female tennis prospect in a generation. At the outset of her career she wins a major, the first qualifier in the open era to do so, without dropping a set and a few months after doing her A levels, yet because two years later she hasn't won another title she attracts criticism from people on here. The girl is 21 ffs and has already achieved more than 99% of pro tennis players ever do. Surely at this stage of her career she deserves better than snide comments.

Yep and she didn't just win the US Open, she blew everyone away, she'll win more yet.

I'd have thought Bellingham might get a shout. Maybe Stones for City as he was massive for City last season. As for the comment about Emma Raducanu, having to have 3 operation to fix long term injuries that she had been playing with for over a year obviously isn't good enough for some people and she should have already won Wimbledon 😂

Oh give over, I'm sure she'll get over me commenting on an obscure message board about her.
It's nothing to do with not winning another title, any title, it's to do with functioning as a day to day tennis player. She changes coaches like a pair of shoes and just seems to make a bunch of money for looking pretty. That's fine if that's what she wants. I can't believe it is but she's not showing much evidence to disprove that.
I agree that whatever happens you can't take away what she's achieved and in such style too and if she does start to function as a top end tennis player then I'd be very happy to be proved wrong.
