No mention of KO today

It seems incredible that it is 49 years since Kevin lost his life.

I scarcely knew him, but it was a sobering occasion because in those days it could easily have been any of us. As we know, these sorts of problems are still with us even now.

I was too young to move in his circle, but he always said hello when he saw me with my cousin (who was). RIP.

I was stood no more than 10 yards away when Kev got stabbed by the refreshments kiosk at the back of the Kop, could have easily been me or any of the other Blackpool fans stood there that day, Kev just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

They nicked the correct lad on the day but somehow due to some huge cock ups he ended up walking free from court in a huge miscarriage of justice, poor Olly's family didn't get the justice they deserved.

RIP Kev.

I was mates with Kev's older brother Geoff, we went through Grange Park Junior School and Blackpool Grammar School together.

My Dad and their Dad used to play football with all of us young 'uns on the back fields of Grange Park, and our small gang of young guns did many other great/smashing things together - happy days they truly were.

Kev was a lovely young lad, growing up amongst good families and good people back in the 60s.

I still have an old photograph of our local scout group with Kev, Geoff, myself and others on it.

Such a tragic loss of a young life, I remember talking one afternoon to his Mum in Marton (where both our families had subsequently moved to) and she told me that the young Bolton 'murderer' got off on a technicality...

'Under age' at the time (I believe that he was only 14 years old), he was interviewed by the police without the presence of a guardian and/or a solicitor.

She also told me that the family had moved to Jamaica.

RIP Kevin, young/old mate, always remembering.🧡

Yes fifties that all seems correct, I also recall the CPS had conflicting witness statements as well, apparently the lad had swapped his top to avoid being identified and some witness statements said he had a different colour top on and his defence counsel jumped all over it.

The other aggravating factor was how he got in the ground carrying a knife, we always got searched back in those days and no way should the lad have got in with a blade on him.

I believe his family went back to Jamaica after the trial, probably the best idea because there was a lot of anger and hatred after he got away with murder and the anger has not gone away all these years later.
