Johnson urged people to return to work from the beginning of August, despite health advisors predicting a second wave in the Autumn. Today, he is allegedly going to tell us to work from home! Infections in France and Spain have been rising alarmingly for the last few weeks but we have taken little action. The test and trace program is failing miserably.
The height of incompetence!

Yep it was defensible when it was a complete unknown. Now it's a disgrace.

I do keep hearing Starmer berate the government but he hasn't actually said how he would handle this better?

If they don't get COVID they will certainly be dizzy as a consequence of the U turns they keep making.

Get back to the office, work from home being the latest.

I notice that the Govester described the change in working from home/office position as "a change of emphasis".

I`m afraid it is that sort of patronising and disingenuous language that undermines faith in them. We all want them to succeed, and we know there are difficult decisions, but comments like Gove`s are unhelpful. It isn`t a "change in emphasis", it is a misstep and should be acknowledged as such.

We shouldn`t expect them to get everything right, but there should be an acknowledgement when a mistake is made.

To use a sailing analogy, instead of plotting a course and carefully tacking towards a destination, we seem to have a crew who lack the necessary sailing skills, have lost an oar, and have a Captain who gets sea-sick very easily and spends a lot of his time below deck...

Johnson just gives answers people want to hear at that moment in time and then does something different later. Just another example. At the time, the noise was all about businesses in city centres like sandwich bars etc. who needed footfall from workers so to appease them, he said, get back to work. It's been obvious for weeks now that the gentle uptick in cases would keep growing until it then spiraled out of control so there was never a chance that would be sound advice.

Meanwhile Home Office staff told to bring sandwiches to work and avoid city centre cafes. You couldn't make it up.

What a fair and balanced response. They are treating us as idiots, honesty left the Government with Cummings eye test.

The latest on the moonshot compound their disdain. The great idea was to spend £100 billion getting tests to allow people to prove they were negative to work, to socialise, to play, to travel. Now Dido Harding has told the Business community that, if you do not have symptoms, you will have to pay. So we, the taxpayer fund it to the tune of £100 billion, and some private company, no doubt owned by an MP's spouse/ ex political adviser / Tory Donor, makes a killing

They are laughing at us, and loads on here still support them. Respect, by the way, to those of a traditional Tory mind on here who have seen through them, you guys are very important going forward.

Beginning to look that way.

Where’s there’s chaos there’s .......££££££££££.

Why else has the Tory Party embraced the idea of “State Aid” so enthusiastically? Something they used to think was an anathema.

Anyone have any ideas on how to manage it from here on in ?

Boris is not well enough to question the insights by the scientists. One of his own MPs who met him said he is exhausted. And Cummings "A hard rain is coming to this country" is sitting on his shoulders directing operations

Vulnerable to be protected at all cost. No more of this 'one size fits all' policy making. Business as usual for every fit and healthy person under 50. Over 50s can choose their own level of exposure as suits.
European nations to 'swap' scientific teams. Too much confirmation bias, entrenched views and marrying with governments. Opposition to oppose, emergency Coronavirus Act powers to end and laws to be scrutinised properly.
Stop mass testing immediately, concentrate on genuinely susceptible groups/sectors, dial down the fear.

A few ideas.

Thank you. Further good news.

The US govt last week updated the survival rates ie. IF infected for Covid19:
0-19 99.997%
20-49 99.98%
50-69 99.5%
70+ 94.6%
Can any one contradict that the only sensible option is to protect the elderly and ALL other measures are meaningless waste of money and resources?
