It’s going to cost £300,000 for a by-election rumours are rife there’s going to be a general election in early May so another £300,000 now forgive my ignorance and I’m no Tory but that to me seems a complete waste of public money.

Agreed but we do not have a crystal ball to see whenn Sunak wll call GE. It could be May It could also be Jan next year. So until the "man with the plan" (Rishi) decides to let us know what the plan is the country is in limbo.

There is no way there will be an election in May. Sunak will cling on as long as possible and hope things get better, plus theres a collective amnesia. Anyway, the people have a right to representation and given their current MP has been found guilty of accepting bungs, it's only right there is an option to choose a non criminal.

There is a principle at stake. Does that not count?
Principle yes of course it counts but we have a habit in this country of throwing public money away therefore I thought it would have been better spending it on something useful like taking a few homeless off the streets, supporting the elderly who can’t afford to pay their energy bills or even repairing potholes which every road seems to have these days yet bugger all ever seems to get done.
If an election was much further away I wouldn’t have questioned it but as I said it could be a matter of weeks away we don’t know for sure and throwing hundreds of thousands of pounds away is uncalled for imo.

They all get little favours along the way, the important thing is to not get caught or have friends in high places.

I’m pretty sure the labour leader Starmer will have had many favours in his career.

That’s just the way it is.

Nowt to do with your past support for Scotty Betfred then?

I’ve posted in the past I’ve had meetings with him over Blackpool airport I’ve never denied it.
I’ve also posted many times over the years I’ve supported Labour all my life.
Oh and £300,000 is a lot of bloody money to waste if an early general election is called.

But you told me he'd done more for Blackpool in two years than Marsden did in three decades. You then said you'd compile a list of his achievements, never got that.

In most walks of life what he did would be considered to be clear corruption and he was caught red handed. The evidence was very clear.
Why aren't the police investigating?

And I still stand by what I said.

When I lived in Blackpool for 20 of the 30 years Marsden served as the towns MP I never once saw him either out canvassing or knocking on my door or even meeting local people and businesses which is the complete opposite of Benton.

Mind you living in Brighton wouldn’t have helped would it? 🫣

But what has he achieved? More 5g masts?

As far as Im aware, Benton was open to lobbying Ministers in exchange for a fee..... He never received payment, so Im at loss at your implication he's a criminal.

Dodgy, yes and against Parliamentary rules but don't let your Labour agenda mask what actually happened.

He said on film that he had received numerous hospitality packages worth a lot, the clear implication was that it was in return for favours. Information of a private parliamentary report was offered if memory serves correctly. He has also lobbied incessantly for the gambling industry.
It's all in film and very damning.

He's achieved a recall petition for corruption, Marsden would never have had the initiative! Too busy living the highlife in Brighton to accept a bribe! Typical Labour.
Shame Marsden was big buddies with O O they pissed in the same pot for years and he never once called him out for any wrong doing something I doubt very much Benton would never do.

Exactly, it’s how it is, business, civil service, all the same.
Elburrow will no doubt have had favours in his work life.
Although I bet he says not🤓

Interesting EBSN, wasn't aware of that, but as I inferred to Wiz, naughty but as far as Im aware not criminal.

He took hospitality from gambling firms and lobbied as a consequence.

You're right. Maybe not criminal, but illegal.

Let down by the Oystons FFS. 🤣

He’s hardly nailing him to the cross like Joey Barton and others said even our own TAM.

I attended at least 2 private functions at Bloomfield road many years ago when I was the Chairman of BAE Systems Blackpool fc supporters club and OO and Marsden were pretty much hand in hand with each other at both of them.

He could have done a hell of a lot more in condemning the convicted rapist but he didn’t say a bad word against him.

So people have always claimed the exact expenses to the nearest penny have they when being away on company business?

Yer ok I must live on a different planet then. 🤣

Can't believe you defend him. He was found guilty and his peers agreed. Surely if it costs £300000 for this recall (and it's a waste so close to a general election) then the right thing to do is for Mr Benton to just resign and save that money.

I’d suggest you read my comments again.

I’ve never once mentioned anything about defending him in what he’s done I don’t what he did was wrong and he’s rightly being punished.

But when people ask you questions about what has he done for Blackpool I tell it as it is if people don’t agree with then fair enough.

It only needs Benton to resign and the cost of the petition goes away.

Just looked it up on google maps & it's 5 minutes walk away from me yet I'd never heard of Molyneux Drive 🙄 A short walk is in order later in the week.

Take the £300k from the "Not sending people to Rwanda" billions.

💯
And I’ve commented many times on that waste of money as well.

It’s just that the Benton by election money would have be spent by Blackpool council and 300 grand is a lot of money you seen the state of the potholes in and around town lately?

According to the the Notice of Petition, if at least 10% of eligible people in the constituency sign he will lose his seat if less than 10% he will not lose his seat and no by-election will be held. Perhaps they’re hoping for a poor turn out the way its being asked!🤷‍♂️

three by ELECTIONS have been called in the last month. the rules should be followed. whatever the cost. Scott Bent ONE lives up to his name. Glad my local mp who is Mark Menzies seems a decent sort. And he is a tory. but as i was a free transfer nine months ago i sort of dont get a vote.

I’m with Jaffa on this.

Frankly I can’t see any point in wasting money prosecuting criminals.

Very expensive things these investigations and trials.

And don’t get me started on the costs involved in building and running a prison.

Shocking. Just release them early, close the prison and save money 👍

Exactly. If he'd resigned then the petition would not be needed. But no, it has to be all about him.
