Nottingham Forest points deduction

As I put on the other thread, the cup might be a lifeline for them if they get relegated due to points deduction.

It's bollocks tho and how are city/chelsea not being done.

Just read if forest had sold Johnson to brentford they would have met the rules however they sold him to spurs 2 months later on deadline day for 12.5m more. I know if that was Blackpool what deal I would have wanted.

That's exactly our defence apparently. Whether it will wash or not is a different story, particularly as BJ played in a few of our early games. If he'd done his ACL we'd have been up the creek without a paddle. Apparently we were in dialogue at the time about it.

On the one hand I'm annoyed at the club, there's been so much money wasted since promotion it's unbelievable. That's partly due to the club constantly changing roles behind the scenes and essentially having too many cooks, all wanting their own input. It's partly due to the club basically not having a squad when we went up and Prem money doesn't go far when you have to bring in 20+ bodies.

On the other hand I think the rules should be looked at. Over the past 3-year rolling period Forest have only been allowed a £60m loss as two of those years were in the Championship whereas Everton and other established EPL teams are allowed £105m. So it essentially means that newly promoted clubs can't come up and splash the cash about unless they've spent one of the previous 2 years in the Premier League. So if Ipswich go up this year they'll have to be very careful if they want to compete.

It seems specifically designed to ensure clubs don't come up and upset the status quo.

According to sky sports news forest been charged for 1 season in the championship ( season they went up) and two in the premier league
Just been on News saying 2 years in the championship and one in the prem so god knows lol

There seem to be two systems operating in parallel here, and from where I sit the EPL look like they are making a balls of both. I can understand why Everton are peeved about being effectively charged twice for some aspects of their crimes, especially when they haven't yet had a decision on their appeal. As governance goes, it looks awful. It will look even worse if they get their original punishment commuted - and there has to be a decent chance they will.

It's definitely the latter as the end of the FFP year for us in our second Prem season will be the 30th June this year.

I’d be furious too. If the owner is getting done for the difference of a Johnson sale, then I’d have wanted him to go totally Chelsea and blow £1 billion. Might as well break FFP rules in style as opposed to on a whimper.

Everton I have no sympathy for. They were warned over 4 years. They only needed to sell 2 or 3 players like Calvert Lewin and T-Rex arms in net and they’d have been safe of the punishment. They instead went and spent a further £50m on full backs, knowing where they were against the rules.

If either appeal a points decision, the result of that will be 5 days AFTER the season finishes, so it seems Everton might get out of a relegation again as any deduction will probably be the next season.

Everton have already had a 10 point deduction which included the 22/23 season. That’s what is coming out of Everton

Said on sky it will all be finalised by the 24th May one week after the season finishes and any points deductions would come off this seasons total so at a guess none of the teams at the bottom at the end of season won’t know if they’re relegated or not until the 24th May. Sounds crazy to me

Everton assumed they didn't have to take into account the interest on loans against the new stadium, which is permissible under the rules.

For whatever reason, the EPL have taken that spend into account, as they think it wasn't all spent on the ground. The case hinges on those interest payments. If Everyon prove it was for the new ground then they're home free.

Either way playing with rules loose and fast. They could have sold one or two players and that would have been the end of it.

They all sign up to the rules. Bored of these Prem teams distorting all of football. I’d have loved the break away league to have happened too. Lastly I hope at some stage Newcastle win the league and do so for the next 20 years just to show what a farce it all is when nation states* can own an English football team.

* unless Norway decides to buy the Pool at which point I will love being a hypocrite

You get the feeling the end to this Prem season could be carnage as more and more of these scenarios unfold .. and did I hear a whisper that Barnsley might be facing a punishment?
